Question: Why doesn't the DVD movie play smoothly?
Ensure to use AC power.
Set back the screen resolution, color quality, and screen refresh rate to the default
value of 1024x768, 16bit, and 60Hertz.
Question: Why isn't the optical drive recognized?
If the computer is turned on with some kind of DVD disks inserted in the drive, the
drive may not be recognized. In this case, turn off the computer and open the disk
tray by the way on Question: Why does not the drive open? on the previous page.
Remove the disk from the drive; then turn on the computer again.
Trouble with Communication
Question: Why can't I communicate through the built-in modem?
Confirm the telephone line is properly connected to the modem jack.
Confirm the dial setting (pulse or tone) of Windows XP and/or communication
software are matched with the telephone line.
If you set your connection status using New Connection Wizard, check Use dialing
rules in the Properties dialog box of that connection status. Refer to Internet
Connection of Chapter 5.
Confirm the country/region setting is appropriate.
Confirm the network configuration is appropriate.
Confirm the user name or password is correct.
Confirm the COM port in the communication software is set appropriately.
Turn off the power management in the Windows.
If an unusual device is attached to the line you are connecting to, the modem may
not function properly. Remove the device or contact the dealer of the device.
If your computer is connected to a PBX, consult the PBX maintenance staff or its
service company. If the electric characteristics of your PBX are different from
those of a regular analog line, the modem will not function properly. If you connect
the modem to a digital PBX, both the modem and the PBX may be damaged.
