You can:
stop the cassette at a given frame (image) ; and
advance one frame at a time.
No sound is heard when playing back frame by frame.
1 Press the PLAY ( ) button to start playing the cassette.
2 Press the P/Still button ( ) to stop the tape at a given frame.

Press the P/Still button ( ) again to advance forward frame by frame.

Instead of Step you can also turn the JOG to the left or right to
advance frame by frame backward or forward.
5 To return to normal playback, press the PLAY ( ) button.
If the Frame-by-Frame function is used for more than five
minutes (except for JOG function), the VCR will auto-
matically play to protect the cassette and video heads.
You can vary the playback speed using the Shuttle function (up to
nine times the normal speed).
Example: You wish to analyse an athlete's technique, movement
by movement.
The Shuttle function is available on the remote control.
No sound is heard when playing a sequence at variable
speeds.

Turn the SHUTTLE RING to the left or right to vary the playback speed.
3 Each time you turn the shuttle ring, the speed will change as
shown in the following illustration.

When you activate Variable Speed play, there will be no
color in some modes. This is normal operation. Modes
with no color are shown below.
No color modes : • Variable Speed play of LP recordings
on any system.
If the picture is noisy or distored during X2 play or other
variable speed play mode, adjust the tracking
manually for a cleaner picture.
Searching for a Specific Sequence
Each time you record a cassette on this VCR, an "index" is
automatically marked on the tape when recording starts.
The Search function enables you to fast-forward or rewind to a
specific index and start playback from that point. Depending on the
direction selected, the indexes are numbered as follows.

This VCR uses a standard indexing system (VISS). As a
result, it will recognize any indexes marked by other
VCRs using the same system and vice versa.
1 To search for a specific index, press the INDEX button.

Press or buttons depending on the direction where your
desired programme is located. Each time you press the
buttons, the number decreases or increases respectively.
Result: The index number is displayed.

The VCR starts to search for the point you specified with the
buttons.
Result: When the index is found, cassette playback starts.
You can set an index number up to ±20.
