Before attempting to make any adjustments or carry out maintenance on the mower, review the hazard identification table (section 3a of your Operator Manual) and take all necessary precautions. The following process shows how to replace the Castor Arms on a Vulcan. Position mower on flat even ground. Remove all covers.

Raise the Rear Deck to a comfortable working height using the hydraulics. Remove the Castor Stems and associated parts as shown. Note: Keep each set of spacers together and note how they are set for when reassembling Castor Stems. Raise the Side Decks to a comfortable working height using the hydraulics.

Position the Stands on the Side Deck using the holes already in the Decks. Secure in position with the supplied M16 fasteners as shown. Repeat on the opposite deck. Note: The rear stand bolt should be positioned from the inside as shown in the insert.

Remove the Castor Stems and associated parts from the Side Deck as shown. Repeat on the opposite deck. Note: Keep each set of spacers together and note how they are set for when reassembling Castor Stems. Position the Stands on the Side Deck using the holes already in the Decks.

Lower all decks down so they are resting on the installed Stands. Remove the M12 fasteners that are securing the Deck Frame to the Body Pan. Remove the M12 fasteners that are securing the Castor Arm to the Body Pan.

Remove the M16 bolts that are securing the Castor Arm to the Deck Frame. Note: Some mowers may have a nut & bolt that is removeable while others just have the nut welded in place. Remove the Castor Arm shown. Sometimes the Castor Arms maybe hard to remove and put back in place.

Position the new Castor Arm in place as shown. Fit the M16 washers and bolts to secure the Castor Arm to the Deck Frame. Loctite 243 is used on the thread of the Bolts. Hand tighten only at this stage. Fit the M12 fasteners to secure the Castor Arm to the Body Pan.

Fit the M12 fasteners that are securing the Deck Frame to the Body Pan. Loctite 243 is used on the thread of the Bolts. Hand tighten only at this stage. Fully tighten all fasteners shown. Repeat the previous steps on the opposite Castor Arm on the Rear Deck.

The process is similar for both side deck Castor Arm replacements. Repeat for all Castor Arms. Once all Castor Arms have been replaced the Stands can be removed. Raise the Rear Deck to a comfortable working height using the hydraulics. Remove the stands from the Deck.

Raise the Side Decks to a comfortable working height using the hydraulics. Remove the stands from the Deck. Note: One side deck will raise before the other. Reassemble the Castor Stems and associated parts as shown. Repeat on the opposite deck. Note: Set the spacers the same as when they were removed from the Castor Stems.

Reassemble the Castor Stems and associated parts from the Rear Deck as shown. Note: Set the spacers the same as when they were removed from the Castor Stems. Reassemble the Castor Stems and associated parts from the Side Deck as shown. Repeat on the opposite deck.
