6. Install the four EPS unit to base plate mounting
screws and torque specification.
TORQUE
EPS Unit Base Plate Screws:
30 ft-lbs (40 Nm)
7. Tighten the lower steering shaft to steering rack pinch
bolt to specification.
TORQUE
Lower Steering Shaft Pinch Bolt:
36 ft-lbs (49 Nm)
8. Tighten the lower steering shaft to EPS unit pinch bolt
to specification.
TORQUE
Lower Steering Shaft to EPS Pinch Bolt:
15 ft-lbs (20 Nm)
9. Tighten the left and right EPS base plate to frame
mount fasteners to specification.
TORQUE
Base Plate to Frame Fasteners:
19 ft-lbs (26 Nm)
10. Tighten the left side frame bracket mounting bolt to
specification.
TORQUE
Left Side Bracket to Frame Fasteners:
19 ft-lbs (26 Nm)
11. Follow the procedure for reinstalling the upper
steering shaft / steering wheel assembly.

STEERING / SUSPENSION
UPPER STEERING SHAFT INSTALLATION
(EPS)
CAUTION
Striking the steering wheel or steering shaft while
installed in the vehicle can permanently damage the
EPS unit and cause a power steering fault.
IMPORTANT
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) units are programmed
to be vehicle specific and are not interchangeable
between product lines.
1. If the pivot tube bearings were removed, reinstall new
bearings. Apply a light film of Loctite 271 to the outer
circumferences of the new bearing races. Press the
bearings into the tube until seated.
IMPORTANT
Use care not to allow any of the Loctite to get in the
bearing.
