Introduction - Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener VS100 These Basic Instructions are a guide designed to help you understand the basic capabilities and operation of your Spot Vision Screener VS100 as it will be used to vision screen students for the Lions Screen Kids Sight vision screening program.

Getting Started Charging Spot Spot contains a rechargeable battery for mobile use. To charge the battery, tilt Spot forward and find the power connector port , then gently insert the power connector from the AC adapter, as seen below. DO NOT force the power connector into the power port on Spot.

Display Window When the vision screener is powered on, the main menu or Home Screen will appear. Figure 2 Touch Screen Display Options: 1. Age Range – USE THIS OPTION TO START VISION SCREENING To begin instant screening, with no personal subject data, select the age range of the student from the listed age options.

Helpful hints • No activity on the vision screener — After 60 seconds the display screen will dim; after 5 minutes the it will automatically turn black to conserve battery power. Tap the display screen to ‘wake up’ the vision screener or press the power button.

SETTING UP THE SCREENING ENVIRONMENT General Space Requirements: Screenings should be conducted in a room as free from distractions as possible and in which lighting can be controlled. There should be enough space for one to three screening stations consisting of 3 chairs and a tripod stand for each station, depending on the size of the school.

Incandescent Sunlight & Lights Windows Preferred Operator Position Operator seated in a chair with device placed on top of tripod platform. Slowly move device forward and back on platform . Operator assisted by helper.

VISION SCREENING A STUDENT Set-up the tripod with the platform top . Position the center of the tripod platform approximately 1 meter from student. Using the wrist strap, place the Spot Screener on top of the platform. Adjust the tripod platform position up or down until the subjects eyes are aligned with the screener.

How to focus the vision screener Start screening and insure that both of the student’s eyes are centered on the screen. Slowly move the Spot Screener forward and back on the tripod platform until the display screen turns from blue to gray, indicating you approaching the capture range.
VIEWING THE RESULTS The results screen will appear at the end of the screening process. For the Pass / Refer format there are only three basic results: 1. Screening Complete – All measurements in range: This is a Pass 2. Complete Eye Exam Recommended : This is a Refer. 3.

2. Spot is NOT waterproof. If you accidentally drop it into liquid or liquid is spilled on it, please promptly contact Welch Allyn Customer Service. If minor water droplets are found on Spot, please wipe them off with a soft dry cloth.

WARNING Liquids can damage electronics inside the vision screener. Prevent liquids from spilling on the vision screener. If liquids are spilled on the vision screener: 1. Power down the vision screener. 2. Disconnect the power plug. 3. Dry off excess liquid from the vision screener. If liquids possibly entered the vision screener, remove the vision screener from use until it has been properly dried, inspected, and tested by qualified service personnel.

Basic Troubleshooting System restart 1. To power cycle the vision screener - press and hold the On/Off button until a confirmation screen appears. Select Confirm to power off. 2. When the screen turns black, wait 30 seconds and then press the power button to turn the vision screener back on.

• The vision screener quickly and easily detects vision issues across all age groups starting at 6 months. • Welch Allyn suggests a battery replacement, at an appointed Welch Allyn repair facility, every 2.5 years at the owner’s expense. The vision screener regular maintenance consists of wiping dust or dirt off the front glass surface and the LCD display as needed.

Warnings 1. The supplied power supply/charger may not be substituted and shall only be replaced by an approved unit supplied by Welch Allyn . 2. This equipment is ESD sensitive; do not touch connector pins during use. 3. The operator shall not touch accessible conductive parts (ac/dc adaptor output connector, camera power input connector and USB port) and the subject simultaneously.
