Replacing a Disk Device

Device Hot Swap is supported under the circumstances described below. Please abide
by the following rules related to disk device removal/disk device insertion into HSG80
Subsystems.

All Disk Device Removal/Replacement

In all cases (Disk Device Hot or Warm Swap), the disk device to be removed must be
removed from any unit association and storagesets including mirrorset, failedset, or
spareset prior to initiating the physical removal.
HSX prompt> delete <unit name>; or "Reduce storageset member
(Mirror or Raid3/5)
HSX prompt> delete <storageset name>; or set m1 remove=disknnnnn
HSX prompt> delete disknnnnn;

Disk Device Hot Swap Support

Disk Device Hot Swap supported ONLY if the following conditions are met:
The controllers are not engaged in failover or failback.
The controllers are not running a local program such as DILX or VTDPY.
The controller's CLI prompt is accessible (not while a previous CLI command is
being processed).
If the drive being removed or replaced is being physically moved to a new port or
target location on the same controller, you must wait a minimum of 60 seconds
before re-inserting device into its new location.
If the controller is in the process of recognizing or processing one or more hot
drive insertions, the controller must be allocated enough time to do proper device
discovery for both operations. The busier the controller, the longer the waiting
time should be. (One drive at a time - waiting 60 seconds between physical
removal/replacement operations).
Do not remove a device from a unit that is under load (including reconstruction /
initialization). If you wish to remove a device from a unit, you must reduce the
raidset or mirrorset and delete the diskxxxxx device.
