Replicating root.dfs Using "Cheap Replication"

Replicating root.dfs Using "Cheap Replication"
If your root.dfs fileset uses Episode, you can use the following procedure to
replicate root.dfs. The first replica must use cheap replication; that is,
replicated on the same aggregate. This task is optional but recommended for
Enhanced DFS 3.0.
This is a complete, but condensed, procedure. For details about the files and
commands used in this procedure, and the concept of cheap replication, consult the
OSF DCE DFS Reference Guide, Revision 1.2.2. An HTML version of this document
is provided in the Enhanced DFS fileset EFS-DOCS, and installed in the directory
/opt/dce/efs_docs.
1 Use this command to create a read/write mountpoint for the root.dfs fileset:
fts crmount /:/.rw root.dfs -rw
After you create the read/write mountpoint, the command ls -l /:/ will say that /:/.rw
is not found, but this is not really true. This is caused by Enhanced DFS checking for
a fileset mounted within itself. Until root.dfs is replicated and released, /: is actually
the same mountpoint as /:/.rw (root.dfs). After releasing the replica, /: becomes the
mountpoint for the root.dfs.readonly, while /:/.rw is the mountpoint for the
read/write root.dfs.
2 Use this command to check that the directory /:/.rw is a read/write mountpoint
for the root.dfs fileset (%root.dfs):
fts lsmount /:/.rw
3 Use this command to set the replication type of root.dfs to Release Replication:
fts setrepinfo root.dfs -release
4 Use the fts addsite command to create a cheap replication site for the root.dfs
fileset; that is, a replica site on the same File server machine and aggregate as the
root.dfs read/write master. Example:
fts addsite root.dfs /.:/hosts/our_server epi1
5 Use this command to make the replica:
fts release root.dfs
