New Hardware

If you add new hardware such as a printer or a gamepad to your computer, you may
be prompted to insert the Windows Installation CD or diskettes. If you see this
prompt, you only need to follow these steps:

You may be prompted to restart your computer so that the new hardware can be
recognized by the system.
Reinstalling
If a driver is accidentally deleted or the operating system is reinstalled, the driver

subdirectory allows you to restore individual drivers rather than restoring all the
original software. The drivers you can restore are Audio, Video, Display, Modem,
and CD-ROM.
Most drivers may be reinstalled by selecting the SelectiveRestore option from
QuickRestore. Refer to QuickRestore earlier in this chapter for more information on
how to reinstall drivers using the SelectiveRestore option.
To reinstall other drivers, complete the following steps:

NOTE:
You do not have a Windows Installation CD; the information is already loaded
into your computer.
At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next to begin installing the drivers and
files necessary to make the new hardware work.
Select the Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended) option
and click Next.
Select the Specify a location option. If C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS is
not displayed in the drop-down box, either select it from the drop-down menu or
type it in the box and click Next. The Add New Hardware Wizard will begin
installing the necessary files and drivers for the new hardware.
When the Add New Hardware Wizard completes installing the files and drivers,
click the Finish button.
From the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Programs, and click Windows
Explorer.
Find the CPQDRV folder on the hard drive and double-click it.
Find the folder of the device you wish to reinstall and double-click it.
Double-click the setup program for the driver you wish to reinstall.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
