    Troubleshooting Problems with the Printing Quality Phenomenon Printing is faint Cause You may be printing on the wrong side of the paper. The Printhead nozzles are clogged. Because the printer was left without ink tanks installed for some time, ink has become clogged in the ink supply system.
  • Page 7 Phenomenon Paper rubs against the printhead Cause The type of paper specified in the printer driver does not match the type loaded in the printer. Paper has been loaded incorrectly, causing it to wrinkle. The Printhead is set too low in the Control Panel menu.

    Troubleshooting Phenomenon The edges of the paper are dirty Cause The Platen has become dirty after borderless printing or printing on small paper. The type of paper as specified on the printer does not match the type specified in the printer driver. The paper is wrinkled or warped.
  • Page 9 Phenomenon The surface of the paper is dirty The back side of the paper is dirty Cause The Paper Retainer is soiled. You are using a paper that does not dry easily. The Platen has become dirty after borderless printing or printing on small paper.
  • Page 10 Troubleshooting Phenomenon Printed colors are inaccurate Cause Color adjustment has not been activated in the Advanced Settings of the printer driver. Colors have not been adjusted on the computer or monitor. The Printhead nozzles are clogged. In the Windows printer driver, Application Color Matching Priority is not selected.
  • Page 11 Phenomenon Banding in different colors occurs Cause The paper feed amount is out of adjustment. Printing does not proceed smoothly because print jobs are interrupted during transmission. In the Control Panel menu, Adj. Priority is set to Print Length . The Printhead is out of alignment.
  • Page 12 Troubleshooting Phenomenon Colors in printed images are uneven Cause Line Drawing/Text is selected when printing images in many solid colors. You are printing on paper that curls easily. Printed colors may be uneven if you set the Print Quality too low. Color may be uneven between dark and light image areas.
  • Page 13 Phenomenon Image edges are blurred or white banding occurs The contrast becomes uneven during printing The length of printed images is inaccurate in the feeding direction Cause The Platen suction is too strong. The Printhead is set too high in the Control Panel menu.

  • Page 15 Phenomenon Lines are misaligned Cause The Printhead alignment is not adjusted. The type of paper specified in the printer driver does not match the type loaded in the printer. The Printhead is set too high in the Control Panel menu. Depending on the type of paper, printed lines may be noticeably misaligned.
  • Page 16 Troubleshooting Cannot Print Over Network Phenomenon Cannot connect the printer to the network Cannot print over a TCP/IP network Cause The Ethernet cable is not connected correctly to the printer's Ethernet port. The printer's IP address is not configured correctly. The printer's TCP/IP network settings are not configured correctly.
  • Page 17 Phenomenon Cannot print over AppleTalk or Bonjour networks Cannot print over a NetWare network Cause The AppleTalk protocol is not enabled on the printer. The computer you are trying to print from is not configured correctly. The computer and printer are not on the same network.

    Note that other operations are not possible while Agitating is displayed on the control panel. • After the printer is turned on • After data transmission • After ink tank replacement In other cases, contact your Canon dealer.
  • Page 19 Phenomenon Messages advising to check the maintenance cartridge are not cleared The printer consumes a lot of ink Cause The printer has not detected the new Maintenance Cartridge that was used to replace the old one. Many full-page color images are printed.

    If Roll Paper Jams Clear jammed roll paper as follows. If roll paper jams, follow the steps below to remove jams. Turn the printer off. (→"Turning the Printer On and Off," User Manual) Open the Top Cover . If the Carriage is out, move the Carriage out of the way, away from the paper.
  • Page 21 If the Carriage is on the left, move the Carriage to the right until it stops. • Always move the Carriage to the right side. If the Carriage is on the left, a Carriage error may occur when you turn on the printer. Hold the edge of the roll paper in the middle as you gently pull it evenly to the position of the Ejection Guide (a).

    If a Sheet Jams Clear jammed sheets as follows. If a sheet jams, follow the steps below to remove it. Turn the printer off. (→"Turning the Printer On and Off," User Manual) Open the Top Cover . If the Carriage is out, move the Carriage out of the way, away from the paper.
  • Page 23 If the paper is not visible, lift the Ejection Guide , remove the Roll Holder , and clear the paper jam from below. After removing the paper, make sure there are no other scraps of paper in the printer, and then lower the Ejection Guide .

    If Paper is Soiled Clean inside the top cover of the printer as follows. Clean inside the Top Cover about once a month to maintain better printing quality and help prevent problems. Also clean inside the Top Cover in the following situations to ensure optimal operation. •...

    If Vertical Lines are Warped or Colors are Misaligned This section describes how to perform automatic adjustment of the printhead to straighten lines and colors. The printer will print and read a test pattern, and the Printhead position will be adjusted automatically.

    If Banding Occurs This topic describes how to adjust the feed amount automatically. If printed images are affected by banding in different colors across the sheet, execute Adj. Quality for automatic adjustment of the paper feed amount. There are two modes of automatic adjustment to correct banding: Auto(GenuinePpr) and Auto(OtherPaper) . In either mode, the printer prints and reads a test pattern for automatic adjustment of the feed amount.

The loaded roll has expanded or contracted due to environmental conditions, making it wider or narrower than the supported width for borderless printing.
  • Page 46 Error Messages Error Message Paper size not detected. Cause Paper has been loaded askew, or warped paper has been loaded. Because the Platen is soiled with ink or other substances, the size of the clear film cannot be detected. Corrective Action Follow these steps to reload the roll.
