How to set up Adapter Fault Tolerance (AFT) function and Adaptive Load Balancing
(ALB)
With more than one N8403-012 adapters, you can balance loads over your network, and
redundant cabling becomes possible. Available functions are as follows;
♦ Adapter Fault Tolerance (AFT)
By grouping more than one adapters, if the primary adapter fails, the secondary
automatically takes over.
♦ Adaptive Load Balancing (ALB)
By grouping more than one adapters, all adapters in the group can send packets/frames
from the server to increase throughput.
This function includes the AFT function.
Adapters that will be grouped for AFT can be connected with the
same network device (such as hub or switch) or with different ones,
however they should exist on the same LAN (the same segment).
Adapters that will be grouped for ALB should exist on the same LAN
of the network device (such as hub or switch).
If they are connected with different network devices, ALB will not
work properly.
Install the driver. Restart the system. Then, you finally can set up
AFT/ALB.
To use AFT/ALB functions with N8403-012 adapter, do not group the
adapter with the onboard LAN port.
You cannot group N8403-012 adapter with another one on a different
CPU blade, either.
