3. Using the CDRW-1

The procedure for backup/restore using the CDRW-1 is
the same as for backup/restore on an external drive.
For the procedure of using the CDRW-1 to create an
audio CD, refer to "Step 9. Mixdown" ( p.49).
When using the CDRW-1, you must be sure that
the D12 is placed on a level surface that does not
vibrate.
Listening to an audio CD
Here's how to listen to an audio CD with the L channel
of the CD assigned to mixer channel 1 and the R chan-
nel assigned to mixer channel 2.
1 Insert an audio CD into the CDRW-1.
Press the eject button of the CDRW-1 to open the
tray, and insert the audio CD.
2 Assign the audio output of the CDRW-1 to mixer
channels 1 and 2.
Select the [INPUT] "Ch1–6" tab page. Select the
"Ch1" icon, and rotate the [VALUE] dial to select
"CD L." Select the "Ch2" icon, and rotate the
[VALUE] dial to select "CD R."
3 Play back the disc.
Select the [SONG] "CDR/RW" tab page. Use the
cursor to select the Play key of the CD-R/RW
transport keys, and press the [ENTER] key. The
sound of the CDRW-1 will be heard via the mixer
channels.
Playing/recording the sound from an audio CD
Here's how to assign the L channel of a CD to mixer
channel 1, the R channel to mixer channel 2, and record
the sound.
1 Insert an audio CD into the CDRW-1.
As explained in the preceding section "Listening to
an audio CD," assign the sound from the audio CD
to the mixer channels.
2 Specify the recording tracks.
Press the [TRACK STATUS] keys of tracks 1 and 2
to put them in REC mode (red LED). The audio of
channels 1 and 2 will be assigned to tracks 1 and 2.
3 Verify the recording mode.
Select the [RECORD] "RecMode" tab page. Set
"SelectRecMode" to "Input."
4 Press the [REC] key to enter record-ready mode.
5 Press the [PLAY] key to begin recording.
6 When you finish recording, press the [STOP] key.
When you are finished recording, verify that
recording was performed correctly.
The beginning of recording on the D12 is not syn-
chronized with the playback of the CD on the
CDRW-1. If you wish to start recording from the
beginning of a CD song, use Trigger Recording.

Updating the system software

The system software of the D12 can be updated from an
external SCSI disk that contains D12 system files.
The latest system file can be downloaded from the Korg
website (http://www.korg.co.jp).
For details on system files, refer to the Korg website or
to Korg dealer.
Downloading the system
Download the system file from the Korg website. Copy
the file onto an external DOS format removable disk.
For details on the procedure, refer to the Korg website.
Connections
Connect the external removable disk drive containing
the system file to the D12 via SCSI. ( p.67)
Be sure to turn off the power of both devices before
you make connections.
Updating the system
1 Select the drive connected to the D12.
In the [SYSTEM] "DiskUtil" tab page, use "Drive
ID" to select the drive that contains the system file.
2 Use "SelOperation" to select "LoadSystem."
The system can also be updated from the internal
CDRW-1 (if installed).
3 Execute the load operation.
Press the "Exec." button. When the display asks
"AreYouSure?" press the "Yes" button to begin
loading.
If the power is turned off accidentally while the
system is being loaded, the D12 may become inca-
pable of operating correctly. If this occurs, please
contact Korg dealer.
4 When loading is completed, the following dis-
play will appear, and the loaded system will be
checked.
If the check sum result is correct, the display will
indicate "Check sum=OK." If not, the display will
indicate "Check sum=NG."
In the case of "OK," the D12 will automatically
restart after a while, and will begin operating with
the new system.
In the case of "NG," restart the D12, and attempt
the loading procedure once again.
If the display still indicates "NG," please contact
your Korg dealer.
