IDs must be updated. The Network ID of an MLRemote can be set using a direct connection to the MLRemote with a custom RS-232 serial cable (CAN-MLRemote-CON-CBL). This can be done on site prior to deploying the system or in the field during the installation process.
Section 2 ‒ MLRemote Installation 2.2 Enclosure Installation Proper site selection and installation of the MLRemote station and sensors is important for best radio communication results. The enclosure can be mounted on a pole or the side of a structure.

Use lumber or other suitable props to hold the pipe in position overnight. See the manufacturer's instructions for the precise curing time. ▪ The MLRemote ships with the top plate in place. Unscrew the four screws located in the corners of the enclosure and remove the top plate. ▪...
The standard MLRemote ships with an integrated 900MHz radio, and an attached 890-960 MHz Omni directional Antenna with up to 3 dBi of gain. If installing the standard MLRemote no additional antenna set up is required at the time of installation, skip to section 2.4 Sensor Installation.
2.4 Sensor Installation Numerous sensor types are supported, including vibrating wire, 4-20mA, and linear potentiometer. The MLRemote module includes a single vibrating wire input, a thermistor input, and two analog measurement inputs. Models that include an MLMux4 allow up to 4 additional sensors to be connected.
White ‒ L2 Thermistor - Green The shields should be twisted together and connected to the Earth terminal of the MLRemote, or the S ter minal of the MLMux4 (if included). Other Sensor Connections For information on connecting other types of sensors, contact Canary Systems.
2.6 MLRemote Module Serial Number Prior to shipping, the MLRemote is addressed using 16-bit addresses, ranging from 001-65535. This address doubles as the module’s serial number and is found on the sticker on the side of the MLRemote module inside the enclosure.
See the MultiLogger Suite Installation Guide for details on installing MLSuite. The steps for configuring the MLBase and MLRemote in MLWebHardware vary depending on the deployment. Each of these variations are outlined in the following sections.
A single MLBase is configured to communicate with one or more MLRemotes. Note - If the MLBase has not yet been configured, this must be done before configuring any MLBase or MLRemote stations in MLWebHardware. See the Canary Systems MLBase Users Guide for installation and configuration details for the MLBase.
6. After configuring the connection details, Save the Device Configuration for the MLBase. 7. Click the MLRemotes button to begin adding new MLRemote devices to the MLBase network. See the Canary Systems MLRemote Users Guide for instructions on configuring the MLRemote units in MLWebHardware.

1. From the Type dropdown, selected "Virtual". 2. Follow steps 2 through 7 outlined in Connection Configuration for a Physical MLBase. Continue to Section 3.2 MLRemote Configuration. MLRemote User's Guide...
Section 3 ‒ MLWebHardware Configuration 3.2 MLRemote Configuration Adding an MLRemote From the MLBase Configuration form, click MLRemote to access existing and configure new MLRemote devices. Click Add to create a new MLRemote and to open the MLRemote Device Configuration form. Information From Device Configuration, enter the devices details in the Information card.
The third mode is used for setting the Network ID and troubleshooting. In this case the server would be a field laptop connected directly to the MLRemote via a serial port. The steps to connect directly to the MLRemote are outlined later in this guide in Appendix B - Setting Network ID.
MLRemote. Instrumentation - Measure Interval Set the desired measurement Interval and Save. This determines how frequently the MLRemote checks in with the MLBase. This is when any new programs are sent to the MLRemote and when data is retrieved.
Channel Configuration Add Channels Click the Add button to add System Information channels and any sensors connected directly to the MLRemote. From the Add Channel form, sensors and channels are configured by selecting an option from the Gate Type drop- down.
Page 27
The text entered in the Name fields determines how the data is displayed in MLWeb . These should be updated to something meaningful that represents the MLRemote being configured and the reading. Click Save to save the form and return to the Channel list.

Click Save. Click Save to save the form and return to the Channel list. Other Sensor Connections Other supported sensor types are configured in the same manor by selecting the designated option from the Gage Type drop-down. MLRemote User's Guide...
After a channel has been added it is displayed in the Channels list, as shown in the figure below. Once all channels for the MLRemote have been added, return to the MLRemote Configuration form to verify the newly created program. If there is no multiplexer included in the MLRemote, continue to 3.4 Verify, Update and Monitor.

Channel Configuration. Multiplexer channels are configuring in the same way as the MLRemote channels described earlier in this section. Once all channels have been configured, return to MLRemote Device Configuration to verify the newly created program. Continue to 3.4 Verify, Update and Monitor.
After all instrumentation and channels have been configured, the program should be verified before pushing it to the MLRemote device. Click the Verify Program button on the Device Configuration form. Upon successful verification, the newly configured program can be pushed to the MLRemote. MLRemote User's Guide...

Note - Not collecting prior to pushing the new program deletes any uncollected data permanently. Hint - Updating the program does not take effect immediately. The program is sent the next time the MLRemote checks in. The next check in is determined by the Interval that was set in section 3.3 Program Configuration. The default interval when the MLRemote is shipped is 1 minute.
Page 33
Once the program has successfully been pushed to the MLRemote device, click Monitor to open the monitor form. Click Enable to begin monitoring the MLRemote. Note - This does not display real time data, only data collected the last time the MLRemote check ed in. This is based on the Interval set in section 3.3 Program Configuration.
Section 3 ‒ MLWebHardware Configuration 3.5 Collection Configuration Once the MLRemote devices have been set up and verified, data collection can be configured from MLBase Device Configuration. 1. Enable collection, to begin collecting data. 2. Enter the IP Address or name of the Server hosting the MLWeb database.
3.6 Station Status MLRemote Status Configured MLRemotes are displayed in the MLRemote list. From this list the Last Check in, Last Collection and Last Update, along with Battery voltage and RSSI level are viewed. The status of the MLRemote is easily determined by the highlighted color the MLRemote:...
The Firmware of the MLRemote can be updated over a serial connection using MLWebHardware. 1. From the Firmware update card on the configuration form of the MLRemote the new firmware can be uploaded by clicking the up arrow and choosing a file.
Setting up a Direct Connection 1. Remove the front plate of the MLRemote by unscrewing the four screws located in the corners of the front of the enclosure. See section 2.2 Enclosure Installation.
Page 38
4. Click Test Connection to retrieve the MLRemote's current settings. Note - The MLRemote has a 20 second timeout window. Once it has been awake for 20 seconds, it will go back to sleep. If 20 seconds passes before clicking Test Connection, the Reset button must be pressed again.
