in the viewfinder may actually differ from
the actual recorded image. The closer the
subject is to the lens, the more noticeable
the difference will be. In some cases,
portions of images shot up close that
appear in the viewfinder will not appear in
the recorded image. You are
recommended to use the LCD monitor
during macro photography (p. 40).
About the AF Function
This camera employs AiAF (artificial
intelligence autofocus) technology, which
uses a broad metering field to calculate the
focal distance with high precision. It
delivers a crisp focus even when the
photographic subject is slightly off-center.
The camera can also automatically focus
on the center when AiAF is set to [Off].
AF-assist Beam
- The AF-assist beam will sometimes emit
when the shutter button is pressed
halfway to assist focusing in certain
conditions, i.e. dark conditions.
Shooting – The Basics
- The AF-assist beam can be turned off
(p. 57).
If animals are your subject, turn off the
beam when shooting in the dark to avoid
startling them. However, please keep in
mind the following facts.
• If the AF-assist beam is turned off, it
may become more difficult for the
camera to focus.
• Even if the AF-assist beam is turned
off, if the flash is on red-eye reduction
auto or is in slow synchro mode, the
red-eye reduction lamp may emit.
