The printer makes a strange noise and stops abruptly.
Cause
The p ap er is jam m ed .
The ribbon is jam m ed
becau se it has too m u ch slack
or it is w orn ou t.
The printer stops printing and the Pause light flashes.
Cause
The p rint head is overheated .

Part of the printout is missing, or dots are missing in random
positions.
Cause
The ribbon cartrid ge is not
installed p rop erly.
There is too m u ch slack in the
ribbon or the ribbon has
com e loose.

Troubleshooting
What to do
Clear the p ap er jam as d escribed on
p age 7-24.
Rem ove any slack from the ribbon by
tu rning the ribbon-tightening knob, or
rep lace the ribbon cartrid ge as
d escribed in Chap ter 6.

Wait a few m inu tes; the p rinter
resu m es p rinting au tom atically once
the p rint head cools.
What to do
Reinstall the ribbon cartrid ge as
d escribed in Chap ter 1.
Rem ove any slack in the ribbon by
tu rning the ribbon-tightening knob,
or rep lace the ribbon cartrid ge as
d escribed in Chap ter 6.
