1.3.1

Controller Outputs

There are five 24 VDC, 1 A Fire Signal Output Relays in the Controller for
interfacing with external equipment, such as a Fire Control Panel.
1.3.2

Master ALERT Signal Relay

During Normal Operation, the Master ALERT Relay is de-energized with open
contacts. During an ALERT condition, the Master ALERT Relay is energized and
the contacts are closed. The Master ALERT relay will respond to any Detector in an
ALERT, even if the Detector goes immediately to the ALARM level.

Zone Alarm Signal Relays

There are 4 Alarm Zones. The SX Controller requires ONE Detectors per zone to
signal Alarm before the Alarm Relay closes. The SX2 Controller requires TWO
Detectors per zone to signal Alarm before the Alarm Relay closes.

Fault Signal Relay

During Normal Operation, the Fault Relay is energized with closed contacts. There
are two yellow Fault LEDs for indicating possible Fault types.
COMM Fault: Communication Faults caused by improper wiring, loose connections,
damaged connectors, or cables.
SYSTEM Fault: System Faults such as Detector Internal Operational Self Test or
relay coil Fault.
If either of these Faults occurs, the Fault relay will de-energize and the relay
contacts will open.
contacts will close, and the yellow LED will go out.
For more detailed trouble-shooting, the SX Software will indicate the Detector, which
has a Fault condition.

Non-Latching Relay Mode

The controller operates in non-latching mode: it automatically resets the Fire Signal
Relays after 5 seconds if the cause of the condition has been eliminated (for
example, fire self-extinguished).
1.3.6

Controller's Detector Search

For the Controller to function with a new set of Detectors, during the System initial
power-up or when Detectors are added to the System, a Detector Search must be
performed. This causes the Controller to catalog the On-Line Detectors by serial
numbers. The Detector Search must be initiated by a PC Computer connection to
Controller's RS-232 port and SX Software. At the end of a Detector Search, the
number of On-Line Detectors will be displayed on the PC screen. This number of
the Detectors must be verified. A complete list of the serial numbers can then be
displayed for verification of the Detectors connected into the System.
1.3.7

Zone Operation

When a Detector Search is performed, all Detectors are assigned to Zone 1. To
change the Zone assignments, the PC Computer RS-232 connection and SX
Software must also be used (see Section 3.2.) Each Detector may be assigned to
any of the four Zones. There is a limit of 12 Detectors for each Zone. The SX2
version requires at least two Detectors per zone to support voting protocol.
