PALM-SIZED ETHERNET SWITCHES
E conomically expand your small-
company or workgroup network
with a tiny device that fits in the
palm of your hand. The Palm-
Sized Ethernet Switch and Palm-
Sized Ethernet Switch for Fibre
enable you to integrate legacy
10-Mbps networks with 100-Mbps
Fast Ethernet. The switches also
function as bridges to extend the
distance between two 100-Mbps
network segments.
The Palm-Sized Ethernet
Switch is available as a 5- or
8-port model. All RJ-45 ports are
autonegotiating for 10BASE-T/
100BASE-TX.
The Palm-Sized Ethernet
Switch for Fibre is available with
eight ports only. Seven ports
feature RJ-45 connectors, and
they are autonegotiating for
10BASE-T/100BASE-TX. The

100-Mbps fibre uplink that's
perfect for connecting
workgroups to fibre backbones.
It can even be used for links
between nodes up to 2 kilometres
(1.2 mi.) apart.
Both switches support the
most demanding multimedia and
imaging applications, thanks to
their nonblocking switching
architecture. You can run 10-
and 100-Mbps speed and half-
or full-duplex transmission modes
on the same port.
What's more, the Palm-Sized
Ethernet Switch and Palm-Sized
Ethernet Switch for Fibre enable
full-wire speed forwarding. They
also provide back pressure and
IEEE 802.3x-compliant flow
control. The switches comply
with other Ethernet standards,
too, including IEEE 802.3 for
10BASE-T and IEEE 802.3u for
100BASE-TX and 100BASE-FX.

All switches include an
internal CPU chip that provides
auto-MDI/MDI-X capability on all
mixed Ethernet ports. The chip
also supports a MAC address
table for 2000 addresses and a
1-MB shared port buffer.
The Palm-Sized Ethernet
Switch and Palm-Sized Ethernet
Switch for Fibre come with an
external, autosensing power
supply that includes a kit of
three separate and detachable
AC power adapters—a 2-prong
adapter for US, a 3-prong adapter
for UK, and a 2-post adapter for
continental Europe. An L-shaped
tool is also included that enables
you to remove one adapter so
another can be installed. Each
adapter is mounted on a plastic
base that slides into and out of the
power supply.
