3 Gently slide the transceiver into the SFP port until it clicks. If the transceiver does
not click into place, remove it, turn it over and re-insert.
4 Remove the plastic protective cover if fitted.

5 Check the LEDs on the front of the Switch to ensure that it is operating correctly.
Refer to "LEDs" on page 17 for more information.
If you wish to remove the transceiver (it is not necessary to power-down your
Switch):
1 Disconnect the cable from the transceiver.
2 Move the wire release lever downwards until it is pointing toward you.
3 Pull the wire release lever toward you to release the catch mechanism; the
transceiver will then easily slide out.
This section describes how to correctly package your Switch 4500 should you need
to return the Switch to 3Com.
WARNING: The unit should be packaged safely to ensure that you do not
invalidate the repair.
Follow these steps to ensure that you package your unit correctly:
1 Orientate your Switch so that the back panel is on the left side (looking down at
the top of the unit) as shown in Figure 9.
2 Secure one of the polystyrene supports to the back panel side of the unit. Secure
the other support to the front panel side of the unit.
3 Place the unit in the box with the back panel next to the cable packaging.
