To sharpen the blades on a Yard-Man reel cutter with part number 1000-6, follow these steps:

1. Clean the Mower: Remove grass, dirt, and debris from the blades and reel using a brush or cloth.

2. Secure the Mower: Place the mower on a flat surface and secure it so it doesn’t move during sharpening.

3. Access the Blades: Remove any covers if needed to expose the reel blades.

4. Backlapping Method (common for reel mowers):
- Apply a reel sharpening compound (gritty paste) to the cutting edges of the reel blades.
- Turn the reel backward by hand using a crank or a wrench attached to the drive mechanism. This causes the blades to rub against the bed knife and sharpen themselves.
- Continue cranking backward for several minutes until blades are evenly sharpened.

5. Clean the Blades Again: Remove all compound with a brush and cloth.

6. Adjust Blade Contact: Ensure the reel blades lightly contact the bed knife across the entire width. Adjust screws or bolts if necessary.

7. Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply light oil to the blade edges and moving parts to reduce future wear.

Always follow safety procedures and refer to the mower’s manual for specific instructions.

@Mr. Anderson is this the same procedure for a Yardman model 1000-5? can’t seem to find the Model number on my lawnmower.
