1G Switch Stacked Installation
Procedure
Pay Attention!
All components must have the same airflow direction when installed in the rack. Cold air
enters at the front of the rack and exits at the rear of the rack. A mismatch in the air
flow direction will affect the heat dissipation. Switches must plan for power supply-to-
connector airflow. i.e. switch network connections must be facing the rear of the rack.
The switch includes a fresh air duct kit that directs cold air from the front of the rack to
the power supply side inlets. DO NOT BLOCK ANY INLET OR EXHAUST DUCTS,
VENTS OR PORTS. Blocked cooling access will adversely affect the
performance of your Cloud Pak for Data System and may void your warranty.
This "Stacked" procedure shows the installer how to install two identical switches
together and create a 2U duct opening by modifying the existing 1U ducts that ship with
your switches. This is the preferred method for installing, cooling and maintaining
redundant switches since the 2U duct provides better airflow and easy access to the
field replaceable fan trays and power supplies.
