    Congratulations on your choice of the Yamaha electric bass. With reasonable care, your Yamaha electric bass will age gracefully and provide many years of superlative musical service. CARE AND MAINTENANCE When connecting or disconnecting cables, turn off the ampli- fier and other equipment or reduce the volume.
  • Page 3: Tuning Machine Tension Adjustment

    The tuning machines have spring-loaded mechanisms which automatically take up wear, preventing backlash. However, it is possible to adjust the amount of pressure required to turn the machines. Each machine has a tension adjustment screw, as illustrated. Loosen Tighten TUNING MACHINE TENSION ADJUSTMENT Clockwise rotation tightens the machine.

    Set one end of the 15cm rule on top of the Final fret with the flat side of the rule against the string and measure the space be- tween the top of the Final fret and bottom of each open string. The recommended height for each string should be as above.
  • Page 5: Intonation Adjustment

    When the string gauge and/or bridge height is changed, or the truss rod is adjusted, it is usually necessary to reintonate the bridge saddles. If the bass plays out of tune in the higher registers, this adjustment is needed. Check each string in the following way: To check intonation, compare the harmonic tone (12th fret) to the fretted tone (12th fret).

    PICKUP HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Proper pickup adjustment ensures maximum output level and uniform response on all strings. To make adjustments, follow the directions below: Using your left hand, depress each string at the last fret, while setting one end of the 15cm rule on top of the pickup section directly under each string.

    CORRECT USE AND HANDLING OF BATTERIES Battery (6LR61 : 9V, S-006P) * When changing batteries, pay close attention to the +/- polarity markings as shown in the illustration above. When these run out, don’t just Battery throw them away, but dispose of (6LR61 : 9V, S-006P) them as minor chemical waste.
