Overview

This chapter provides an overview of the features and functionality of the
IP71 and tells you what you need before you can set up the IP71 and use it to
connect to the Internet.

About the IP71

The IP71 is an Ethernet-to-Ethernet network security platform (NSP) with
four 10/100 Ethernet LAN ports and a 10BaseT WAN port. You can connect
the IP71 to any Internet access device that has an Ethernet interface, such as a
DSL router, a T1 router, or a DSL modem.
The IP71 incorporates the Check Point NG SMB Firewall-1 that enables the
IP71 to function as a security firewall and as a VPN gateway, thus protecting
a small office LAN from unauthorized access.
The IP71 Small Office license is installed on the IP71 and is managed by a
Check Point management server. Security policies are created at the
management server and pushed to the IP71. A single management server on
the WAN side of the IP71 can manage multiple IP71 platforms at various
remote sites. For information on how to configure the IP71 and
Check Point
Nokia IP71 User Guide
