The Start Key, when pressed,
places the
1443
in ready
status providing the
following
conditions
are
met:
1.
Ac
an
d dc
power are
on
.
2.
Form
guide plates
are
closed.
3.
Typebar is
in
position.
4.
Typebar
removal switch is set
to ON.
5.
Carriage brush
assembly
is closed.
6.
Six-to-eight line
drive
cover closed.
7
.
End-of-form
switch not actuated.
8.
No
error
condition
exists.
The Stop
Key, when
pressed
,
removes
the printer
from
ready status
and
turns
off
the ready light.
If
a
p rint
or
control
operation
is
already in
progress
,
it
is completed.
If a
print
or control
operation
is
not
in
progress
,
all
further action is preven
ted un
til START is
pressed.
The
Carriage
R
estore
Key
is effective
only
when the
ready
light is off. Pressing
this key
causes
the
carriage
to advance to the
next
channel-l punch
in
the
control
tape.
If the
carriage
clutch
is
disengaged
,
the form
does
not
move.
The Carriage
Space
Key
is effective
only
when the
ready light
is off.
Pressing this key causes
the
carriage
to
advance one line space. If the
carriage clutch
is
disengaged, the
form
does
not
move
.
The
R
eset
Key,
when pressed,
causes all
printer check
circuit indicators to be reset.
The Carriage
Stop
Key,
when pressed
,
stops carriage
operation and
turns
off
the ready light. Do not press
CARRIAGE STOP to
stop
printer operations; upon
restarting
,
overprinting may
occur.
The
Ty
pebar
Motor
Switch is located under the top
cover and
behind
the operator
panel. This
switch
is
turned to ON
for
normal operation. With the switch
at
OFF,
the ribbon motor, typebar
motor
,
and
ready
light
are
turned off; however, ribbon and typebar con-
trol
circuits remain
active. With the
switch at
TYPEBAR
REMOVAL
,
the ribbon motor, type bar
motor,
and
ready light
are
turned off. Ribbon and typebar
control
circuits
are
also
turn ed off to permit type bar removal.
Use this position when removing
or installing
a typebar.
Do
not
turn this switch to OFF
or
TYPEBAR
REMOVAL while
the
typebar
is
in motion
.
The Typebar Selector Switch is located under the top
cover behind the operator panel. This switch has
four
positions
(13,
39, 52
,
and
63) and is used to
select
the character
bar being
used.
The switch must
be
set
to the position
indicating
the typebar being used
or
a
sync check
occurs
.
This switch
is installed
only if the selective character
feature
is installed.

Th
e
Paper
Brake
Control is used
to
maintain a horizontal
print line by providing drag on the
forms.
The control
has 11 positions: 0 through 5 in half-step increments.
The higher positions
increase
the amount of
drag
exerted
on the
forms. Excessive
pressure results
in
tearing the
forms. Too little pressure results in a wavy print line or
unequal spacing.
Suggested paper brake
settings are:

The
Carriage- Tape
Idler Locking Knob is used to remove
excess
slack from
control
tapes up to 132 lines in length.
The
Platen
Positioning
Knob
is used to compensate for
differen
t thickness
of
forms
by
adjusting
the platen toward
or away from
the
typebar.
