3.7.2 How to perform power ON over LAN

In order to make use of WOL, the Drive Access/Standby (DRIVE/STBY) lamp must be lit
(on). In addition, to keep WOL effective, the Equipment must always be placed in the
standby status by the shutdown operation. Once the standby status is entered by pressing
the Power switch for four seconds or longer, WOL will not take effect. If you entered the
standby status by pressing the Power switch for four seconds or longer, power ON the
Equipment by pressing the Power switch and then place the Equipment in the standby
status by performing the shutdown operation.
The built-in LAN interface in the Equipment complies with WfM 2.0 (Note 1) and
supports Magic Packet™ technology (Note 2). Based on this technology, receipt of a
specific information packet called "Magic Packet™ frame" arriving at the built-in LAN
interface performs power ON of the Equipment. Since no program to transmit the Magic
Packet™ frame is attached to the Equipment, procure commercially available program for
transmitting the Magic Packet™ frame.
Note 1: Wired for Management (WfM) is the hardware specifications guideline proposed by Intel
Corporation for managing internetworked PCs.
Note 2: Magic Packet™ technology is the technology developed by AMD Corporation for remotely waking
up internetworked computers.
Specifically, follow the steps below to perform power ON of the Equipment over LAN.
1. Connect the power supply to the Equipment by connecting the input power cord to the
outlet. Ensure that the Drive Access/Standby (DRIVE/STBY) lamp turns on and stays
lit.
2. Transmit the Magic Packet™ frame to the built-in LAN interface of the Equipment.
Ensure power ON of the Equipment when the built-in LAN interface receives the
Magic Packet™ frame.
< NOTE >
 Be sure to transmit the Magic Packet™ frame to the built-in LAN interface of the
Equipment. See Section 2.1, "External Views of Operator Access Areas" for the
physical connection. WOL does not take effect if the Magic Packet frame is received
on an optional Ether adapter.
 Certain status of the network may cause the Magic Packet™ frame to be lost. Hence,
implement proper measures so that the Magic Packet™ frame surely arrives despite
such status when the Magic Packet™ frame is lost.
