Stopping the Equipment

Before stopping the Equipment, confirm that there are no users using the Equipment and
there are no programs running in the background. Then, perform the following operation,
which is called shutdown.
 Stop the application programs.
 Stop the OS.
The method of stopping the application programs differs depending on the software. Refer
to the manual of the relevant software.
How to stop the OS—Windows® XP Professional:
To stop the OS, click Start menu in the lower left corner of the screen display, and click
Turn off computer in the menu. In the "Turn off computer" dialog box opened, click
Turn Off icon. This automatically shuts down the OS and turns off the primary power,
thus leaving the Equipment only supplied with the auxiliary power. At this point the
STATUS lamp turns off and the DRIVE/STBY (Drive Access/Standby) lamp turns on.
How to stop the OS—Windows® 7 Professional:
To stop the OS, click Start menu in the lower left corner of the screen display, and click
Shut Down button in the menu. This automatically shuts down the OS and turns off the
primary power, thus leaving the Equipment only supplied with the auxiliary power. At this
point the STATUS lamp turns off and the DRIVE/STBY (Drive Access/Standby) lamp
turns on.
When either of the above-mentioned normal power-off operation is unavailable (when the
shutdown request is somehow rejected, e.g., because of a system lock-up), keep pressing
the Power switch in the lower left of the Equipment front panel for four seconds or longer.
Then, the primary power turns off and only the auxiliary power remains supplied. This
method, however, disables next power-on over the LAN and hence should only be used in
an emergency. (See Section 3.7, "Power Control over LAN".)
