Good

with
H(IT water.
Togetdishescleananddry,you
needhot water.Tohelpyouget
waterof thepropertemperature,
yourdishwasher a utomatically
heatsthewaterin thewashcycle.
Forgoodwashinganddrying,the
enteringwatermustbeat least
120°F. T opreventdishdamage,
inletwatershouldnotexceed15001?.
How
to test water temperature:
Checkthe watertemperature
insideyourdishwasherwitha
candyor meatthermometer.
Letthe dishwasherrun throughone
fill and pumpoutcycle,thenlet
thedishwasherfill withwaterthe
secondtime.
Whenyouhear the waterstop
filling,unlatchthe doorand slowly
openit.
Measurethe temperatureof the
waterin the bottomof the tub this
way:
Removethe silverwarebasketand
placea candyor meat thermometer
in the water towardsthe middleof
the tub. If the temperatureis less
than 120°F,you will not get good
washingresults.Higherwater
temperatureis neededto dissolve
greaseand activatepowder
detergents.
Helpfulhints: If outside
temperatures are unusuallylow,or if
yourwatertravelsa longdistance
fromwaterheaterto dishwasher,
youmay needto set yourwater
heater'sthermostatup. If youhave
notusedhot waterfor sometime,
thewaterin thepipeswillbe cold.
Turnon the hot water faucetat the
sinkand allowit to run untilthe

wateris hot.Thenstartthe
dishwasher. If you'verecentlydone
laundryor runhotwaterfor
showers, g iveyourwaterheater
timeto recoverbeforeoperating the
dishwasher.
Toimprovewashability if the
wateris lessthan 120°Fandyou
cannotadjustyourwaterheater:
Selecta longercycleandfill both
detergentcupsat leasthalf-full
withdetergent.
How to use
a rinse agent...
A rinseagentmakeswaterflowoff
dishesquickerthanusual.This
lessenswaterspottingand makes
dryingfaster,too.
For best dishwashing performance,
use of a rinseagentsuchas JET-
DRYbrandis recommended.
Rinseagentscomein eitherliquid
or solidform.Yourdishwasher
uses the liquidform.
How
to fill the rinse agent
dispenser.
Unscrewthe cap.Add
the liquidrinse agentuntilitjust
reachesthe bottomof the lip inside
the dispenseropening.Replacethe
cap. The dispenserautomatically
releasesthe rinseagentinto the
finalrinse water.
Myou
accidentally spill:
Wipeup
the rinse agentwith a dampcloth.
Don'tleavethe spillin the
dishwasher.It can keep your
detergentfrom working.

How to choose
and
use
the

right
detergent.
~
First, use only powder or liquid
detergent specifically made for
use in dishwashers,Other types
wili cause oversdsing.
Second, check the phosphate
content.
Phosphate helpsprevent
hard-water materials fromforming
spotsor filmon yourdishes.If
yourwateris hard(7 grainsor
more),yourdetergent h asto work
harder.Detergents witha higher
phosphate levelwillprobablywork
better.If thephosphate contentis
low(8.7fZo or less),you'llhaveto
useextradetergent w ithhard water.
Your water department can tell
you how hard your water is. So
canyourcountyextensionagent.
Or yourarea'swatersoftener
company. J ustcallandask them
howmany "grains"of hardnessis
in yourwater.
How much detergent should you

Thatdepends. I s yourwater
"hard" or "s~ft"? Wi~h hardwater,

youneedextradetergent t o get
dishesclean.Withsoftwater,you
needlessdetergent.
Toomuchdetergent w ithsoftwater
notonlywastesmoney,it can be
harmful.It cancausea permanent
cloudiness of glassware, c alled
"etching."An outsidelayerof
glassis etchedaway!Butwhy take
a chancewhenit'seasyto find out
the hardnessof yourwater.
Keep your
detergent fresh
and
dry. Underthe sinkisn'ta good
placeto storedetergent. T oomuch
moisture.Don'tput powder
detergentintothe dispenseruntil
you'rereadyto washdishes,either.
