Adapting a project (Upgrading the project / Replacing the SIMOTION
controller)
Overview
The project needs to be adapted if you want to replace the type (e.g. D445-2 DP/PN ⇒
D455-2 DP/PN) or version of the SIMOTION device in your existing project.
Procedure
The exact procedure for project adaptations depends on the scope of the target hardware and
version changes.
An overview of the different applications can be found in Figure 8-1 Overview of upgrade
options (Page 340).

8.3.1

Creating backup copies (project/CF)

Requirement
Before adapting the project, it is essential that you create the following backup copies:
● A backup copy of the project and
● A backup copy of the contents of the CF card, see Backup of the CompactFlash card
data (Page 365)
8.3.2

Backing up user data (backup variables)

Overview
With the SCOUT functions "Save variables" and "Restore variables", you have the option of
backing up and restoring data that were changed during operation and only stored in the
runtime system. This is necessary if a SIMOTION platform is changed or a version upgraded,
for example.
The "Save variables" function creates XML files which are stored in a folder of your choice.
