15. Valve clearance adjustment procedure.

(1) Use a ratchet or the like to turn the crankshaft (Figure 22), and align cylinder no. 1 at compression top
dead centre. (Figure 23)
The cylinder numbers are counted in order of no.1, no. 2, no. 3, and no.4 from the compressor side.
(2) Valve clearance check
Turn the crankshaft, and use a thickness gauge to check each of the valve clearances indicated with
the table below when cylinder no.1 is at the compression top dead centre, and when cylinder no. 4 is at the
compression top dead centre. (Figure 24)

Caution
Adjust the valve clearance while the engine is warm.

(3) Adjustment (Figure 25)
Loosen the locknut.
Use a at-blade screw driver to rotate the adjustment
bolt.
Use a thickness gauge to adjust the clearance while
rotating the adjustment bolt.
Use a at-blade screwdriver to stop the adjustment
bolt from rotating and tighten the locknut.
