This chapter describes the basic procedures to operate and configure a INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer. The INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is configured and operated via AT commands. You can enter these commands yourself with the help of a terminal program and the AT command reference.
Page 31
Operating Principle a) The INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is switched off. b) The INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is not in configura- tion mode. c) The INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is connected to a different serial port.
/ Answer will restore the stored interface configuration after a restart. With each incom- ing AT command (according to the character string "AT"), the parameters for the inter- face of the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer will be checked and ad- justed, if necessary.
Originate / Answer. This applies especially to the parity and stop bits. The error correc- tion and the data compression are in this case switched off as well. If the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is operated in this mode, not all functions will be available.
2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer to interrupt the data flow. This is done via the RTS line. If it is set to "low", the modem will interrupt the data flow to the application. The application will set it to "high" to request data from the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer.
12.4 Data Compression The INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer supports various data compres- sion types. During the connection setup, it will automatically detect the type of data compression used by the remote terminal, or it is set to a certain type of data compres- sion.
(bit direct mode). When the buffer is activated, the data flow control should be active to avoid a buffer overflow in the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer. If the buffer flows over, the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer will perform a reset.
12.6 Error correction The INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer masters the V.42 error correction protocol including the Microcom Networking Protocol Levels 2/3/4 (MNP2, MNP3, MNP4) and the data throughput optimization MNP10. The V.42 error correction includes the protocols LAPM (Link Access Procedure for Modem) and MNP4.
Every 20 seconds, or when the states of the digital inputs in the date stream change their status, the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer sends a test message to the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer of the remote terminal. This test message is used to transmit the input states (IO tunneling) and to perform a function check on the connection (connection safeguard).
12.8 Set Two-Wire or Four-Wire Operation By pre-configured factory default, the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is either set for operation at a two-wire or a four-wire line. In some cases, it may be rea- sonable to change this configuration, for example if the data transmission does not work correctly in one of the operating modes.
12.9 Adjusting the Transmission Level The transmission level of the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer at the leased line can be adjusted. This may be necessary to ensure flawless data transmissions via the leased line. For longer two-wire lines, a lower transmitting level than the preset one may be reasonable, as reflections and echoes in the line may impede the communi- cation between the devices.
12.10 Set the Operating Modes Answer or Originate By factory default, the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer is usually de- livered for operation in originate or answer mode. To operate a leased line, you will al- ways require two modems, one in originate mode and one in answer mode.
INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / An- swer at the leased line via IO tunneling. The input states of a INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer can also be queried via AT commands. The states of both inputs after the system was started is "HIGH".
"****" in the data stream and if no data traffic takes place after that for 1 second, the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer will switch to the remote configuration. It will then send a response and a prompt to enter the password of the remote configuration.
In the following, we show how to configure the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer remotely. You will need a PC which is connected to one of the two INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer at the leased line, via the serial interface. ...
12.15 Reset of the Device There are several methods to reset the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / An- swer: by cutting off the supply voltage, by pushing the reset button on the front of the device and by using an AT command.
The firmware of the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer can be updated to add more functions to the INSYS Modem 336 LL 2D/4D 5.x Originate / Answer or to improve the existing functions. A firmware update can be performed with the help of a terminal program that supports ASCII uploads (e.g.
