shipped ready for natural
gas installation. The
propane/LP conversion
parts are included.

vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any
other appliance.
— WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS :
• Do not try to light any appliance.
• Do not touch any electrical switch;
• Do not use any phone in your building.
• Immediately call your gas supplier from a
neighbor's phone. Follow the gas supplier's
instructions.
• If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the
fire department.
— Installation and service must be performed by a
qualified installer, service agency, or the gas
supplier.

This appliance may be installed as an OEM installation in a manufactured (mobile) home and must
be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the Manufactured Home
Construction and Safety Standard, Title 24 CFR, Part 3280 in the United States or the Mobile Home
Standard, CAN/CSA Z240 MH Series, in Canada.
This appliance is only for use with the type of gas indicated on the rating plate. A conversion kit is

    DIRECT-VENT FIREPLACE PRE-INSTALLATION PREPARATION LOCATION AND SPACE REQUIREMENTS Determine the safest and most efficient loca- tion for your Vanguard direct-vent fireplace. Make sure that rafters and wall studs are not in the way of the venting system. Choose a location where the heat output is not affected by drafts, air conditioning ducts, windows or doors.

A chase is not required for such venting. NOTICE: Treatment of firestops and construction of the chase may vary from building type to build- ing type.

If ceiling joists, roof rafters, or other framing will obstruct the venting system, consider an offset (see Figure 21) to avoid cutting loadbearing members.

    VENTING INSTALLATION Continued HIGH ALTITUDE INSTALLATION Your Vanguard direct-vent fireplace has been AGA tested and approved for eleva- tions from 0-2000 feet and CGA certified for elevations from 0-4500 feet. When installing this fireplace at an elevation above 2000 feet (in the USA), you may need to decrease the input rating by changing the existing burner orifice to a smaller size.

    DIRECT-VENT FIREPLACE FIREPLACE INSTALLATION Continued WALL SWITCH INSTALLATION Since the fireplaces use a valve that operates on millivolt current generated by the pilot, a wall switch (not included) may be used to activate the gas control valve without the use of normal household electricity. A hand- held, ON/OFF remote control is standard with this unit.

    OPERATING GUIDELINES AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS When lit for the first time, the appliance may emit a slight odor for about 16 - 24 hours. This is normal and is due to the “curing” of the logs and the “burn-in” of internal paints and lubricants used in the manufacturing process.
