    AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION Continued VENTILATION AIR Ventilation Air From Inside Building This fresh air would come from an adjoining unconfined space. When ventilating to an adjoining unconfined space, you must pro- vide two permanent openings: one within 12" of the ceiling and one within 12" of the floor on the wall connecting the two spaces (see options 1 and 2, Figure 4).

Wall or framing material can be placed directly against any exterior surface of your fireplace, except where standoff spacers are integrally attached.

    INSTALLATION Continued BUILT-IN FIREPLACE INSTALLATION Built-in installation of this fireplace involves installing fireplace into a framed-in enclo- sure. This makes the front of fireplace flush with wall. An optional brass trim kit acces- sory is available (see Accessories, page 27). Brass trim will extend past sides of fireplace approximately 1/2 inch.

Electri- cian must provide a clamp on the box cover to secure the wir- ing. Wiring should be routed through the bushing in the hole on the outer casing of heater.

    Install external regu- lator with the vent pointing down as shown in Figure 22. Pointing the vent down pro- tects it from freezing rain or sleet. VMH26TPA CAUTION: Use only new, black iron or steel pipe. Inter- nally-tinned copper tubing may be used in certain areas.

    INSTALLATION Continued CONNECTING FIREPLACE TO GAS SUPPLY Installation Items Needed • Phillips screwdriver • sealant (resistant to propane/LP gas, not provided) 1. Remove fireplace screen. Remove two screws that hold fireplace screen in place for shipping. These screws are located near top of screen. Discard screws.

    5. Correct all leaks at once. 6. Reconnect heater and manual shutoff valve to gas supply. Check reconnected fittings for leaks. VMH26TPA Test Pressures Equal To or Less Than 1/2 PSIG 1. Close manual shutoff valve (see Fig- ure 26).

    INSPECTING BURNER Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame pattern often. PILOT FLAME PATTERN Figure 31 shows a correct pilot flame pattern. Figure 32 shows an incorrect pilot flame pattern. The incorrect pilot flame is not touch- ing the thermocouple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool.

    When ignitor button is pressed, there is spark at ODS/pilot but no ignition ODS/pilot lights but flame goes out when control knob is released VMH26TPA WARNING: Turn off and un- plug fireplace and let cool before servicing. Only a qualified ser- vice person should service and repair fireplace.

    CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE WARNING: Turn off fireplace and let cool before cleaning. CAUTION: You must keep con- trol areas, burner, and circulating air passageways of fireplace clean. Inspect these areas of fire- place before each use. Have fire- place inspected yearly by a quali- fied service person.
