General Safety Precautions

When you install the Cisco 6100 Series system in a rack, be sure to allow enough room to access the
backplane of the unit for wiring and cabling purposes. The majority of the connectors are located on
the backplane.
General Safety Precautions
Before working on the equipment, be aware of standard safety practices and the hazards involved in
working with electrical circuitry to prevent accidents. Adhere to the following cautions and warnings
for safe and hazard-free installation.

Proper ESD protection is required whenever you handle Cisco DSLAM equipment.
Caution
Installation and maintenance personnel should be properly grounded using ground straps
to eliminate the risk of ESD damage to the equipment. Modules are subject to ESD
damage whenever they are removed from the chassis.
If the modules are installed when you apply power to the system, you could damage the

modules and the chassis.
This warning symbol means danger . You are in a situation that could cause bodily injury.
Warning
Before you work on any equipment, be aware of the hazards involved with electrical
circuitry and be familiar with standard practices for preventing accidents.

The customer 48 volt power system must provide reinforced insulation between the
primary AC power and the 48 VDC output.
Warning
There is the danger of explosion if the battery is replaced incorrectly. Replace the
battery only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer.
Dispose of used batteries according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Warning
Two people are required to lift the chassis. Grasp the chassis underneath the lower
edge and lift with both hands. To prevent injury, keep your back straight and lift with
your legs, not your back.
