Recording
Where does the music come from?
The music to be stored in the MEX-1HD hard drive must be recorded from a CD, CD-R or CD-RW. There is an
MP-3 decoder in the MEX-1HD so it will play MP-3 music from the CD-R, -RW or Memory Stick®, but the
MP-3 music CANNOT be stored onto the hard drive.

How does the music get recorded into the Hard Drive?
After the songs are selected from the CD for Hard Drive storage, the unit uses internal OpenMG
decode (open) each song. Then ATRAC compression and storage (as an .omg file) into a hard drive folder (that
you have designated) takes place. Once the music is recorded in the hard drive, you can check out the song into
the Memory Stick® or Network Walkman®.
What is Music Check Out?
Once the music is stored in the hard drive, the music can be "checked out" (copied) into Memory Sticks® or
Network Walkmans® a fixed number of times. The music file will remain in the Memory Stick® or memory
within the Network Walkman® until returned to its original hard drive. While in memory, it cannot be further
transferred but it can be played from that memory location or returned.
