11. Turn the stopcock to the "open" position aligned with the syringe, allowing
the negative pressure in the syringe to facilitate biopsy. Move the needle handle
back and forth within the biopsy site. Note: Do not remove the needle from the
biopsy site during biopsy.
12. Upon completion of biopsy, if using the syringe, turn the stopcock to the
"closed" position. Retract the needle completely into the sheath by pulling back
on the needle handle and lock the thumbscrew on the safety ring at the 0 cm
mark to hold the needle in place.
13. To remove needle from scope: unlock the thumbscrew on the sliding sheath
adjuster while maintaining attachment of the sheath adjuster to the scope, and
remove needle (Fig. 4). Or, disconnect the Luer lock fitting of the device from
the accessory channel port, by rotating the device handle counterclockwise,
and withdraw the entire device from the scope. Note: When reinserting device
into the scope for additional passes and before advancing it into the target site,
you must position the handle onto the scope such that the thumbscrews on
the handle are aligned in the same direction as they were prior to the device
removal.
14. Unlock the thumbscrew on the safety ring and extend the needle.
15. Use a new syringe or the stylet to expel the specimen, then prepare per
institutional guidelines.
16. Remaining material may be recovered for examination by reinserting the
stylet or flushing the device.
17. For additional biopsy from the same target site, gently reinsert the stylet
into the Luer fitting on the needle handle. Note: Prior to reinserting the stylet,
wipe with saline or sterile water. While supporting the stylet at the Luer fitting,
advance the stylet in small increments, until the hub is engaged in the fitting.
18. If the needle was removed from the scope while maintaining attachment
of the sheath adjuster to the scope in Step 13: readvance the sheath through
the attached sheath adjuster, ensuring that both thumbscrews are aligned on
the same side. Tighten the thumbscrew on the sliding sheath adjuster at the
preferred sheath length.
19. Additional samples may be obtained by repeating Step 2 through 16 of the
"Instructions for Use".
20. Upon completion of the procedure, disconnect the Luer lock fitting of
the device from the accessory channel port, by rotating the device handle
counterclockwise, and withdraw the entire device from the scope.
Upon completion of the procedure, dispose of the device per institutional
guidelines for biohazardous medical waste.
