System Overview

Featuring all-digital processing, the DME-3000/7000
is a video multi-effects unit which can process the
input from digital video switchers and similar
equipment to achieve a variety of sophisticated effects
with no loss in picture quality.
The DME-3000/7000 is operated from the optional
BKDM-3010 DME Control Panel.

Features

Serial digital I/O
All digital signals are input and output via serial
interfaces, making it possible to transfer digital video
signals over a single cable with BNC connectors. This
permits easier connections than conventional parallel
interfaces, as well as longer transfer distances.
10-bit processing
Both analog and digital signals are input and output as
10-bit signals, with internal processing carried out
using 10 to 12 bits of precision, for minimal
degradation in picture quality.
Compatible with component and composite
signals
Five optional I/O boards (BKDM-3020/3021/3022/
3023/7020) allow a choice of all digital or combined
digital/analog I/O for both component and composite
systems. You can adapt the DME-3000/7000 to
existing systems simply by choosing the appropriate
I/O board for the connected video switcher. A menu
operation makes it easy to switch between 525/625
formats for component systems, or component/
composite formats for the system using the BKDM-
7020.
Compatible with 16:9 wide-screen signals
The DME-3000/7000 system, including optional I/O
boards, is compatible with 16:9 wide-screen signals as
well as with 4:3 signals. A simple menu operation
makes it easy to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 signals.
Integration with DVS-series digital video
switchers
The following functions are available when a DVS-
series video switcher is connected.
• DVS-2000C: DME WIPE
• DVS-6000/6000C: DME WIPE

, DME-3000/7000 control
Digital connections between the DME-3000/7000 and
DVS-series switchers permit integrated video
processing with no loss in picture quality. Note,
however, that some restrictions apply when controlling
the DME-3000/7000 from the BKDS-8010 Control
Panel for the DVS-8000/8000C.
Simultaneous, multichannel operation
When an additional DME-3000/7000 is connected to
this unit, you can control up to two DME-3000 units as
two channels or up to four DME-7000 units as four
channels from the same control panel. In this case, two
or more channels can be controlled simultaneously.
Image combination using a combiner function
By installing optional BKDM-3050 boards in two
DME-3000 (or up to four DME-7000) units, and
connecting these units serially, you can combine two
or more images on the same screen. This function uses
special signals containing depth information, allowing
you to rotate combined images around global axes for
sophisticated 3-D effects.
Automatic switching between frame and field
processing
Depending on the amount of motion in the picture, the
DME-3000/7000 processes images in units of frames
or fields. Frame processing utilizes all of the
information contained in two fields, for minimal
degradation in picture quality. Frame processing is
suitable for creating a new image using effects as it
ensures high precision. Field processing yields more
natural and flowing movement when pictures contain
rapid motion. The unit uses an internal motion detector
to switch between the two modes automatically.
