    Safety instructions • Only use the charger plug supplied. Do not use other chargers as this may damage the battery cells. • Only insert rechargeable batteries of the same type. Never use ordinary, non-rechargeable batteries. Insert rechargeable batteries so they connect to the right poles (indicated in the battery compartment of the handset).

    Getting started Installing the handset 1 Open the battery compartment. 2 Insert the batteries respecting the polarity (+ and -). 3 Close the battery compartment. 4 Leave the handset on the base unit for 20 hours. The Line/Charge indicator on the base will light up. - Back view of base - A.

    Installing the phone software To be able to use the Butler 4872 phone together with Skype, you need to install the phone software on your computer. This software will be the bridge between Skype and the phone.
  • Page 8 Getting started 4 When “Plug in your phone...” appears, connect the USB plug of the phone to the PC and click “Next”.. 5 When “Can Windows connect...” appears, select “No, not this time” and click “Next”. 6 When the new hardware wizard starts, select “Install software automatically” and click next.

    The systray Icon will show different information on the status of the phone/PC connection and Skype. If the Topcom ‘VoIP’ icon has the following colours: - Green : Connection is OK and Skype is seen by the phone - Yellow: Skype is not found by the phone or is not running - Red: PC doesn’t see the phone (no connection)

    2.10 Navitating the menu The Butler 4872 has a menu system which is easy to use. Each menu leads to a list of options. The menu map is shown on the following paragraph. 1 When the handset is switched on and in standby, press the soft menu key 1 to open the main menu.

    Using the telephone Changing the language 1 Enter the menu. 2 Select “Handset” and confirm. 3 Select “Language” and confirm. 4 Select a language and confirm. The screen displays “Saved”. If you have chosen English, your handset’s menus will be in English. 5 Press the on-hook key to hang up or put the handset back on the base.

    Making a Skype telephone call Making a Skype call from the online contact list 1 Press the Skype-key. The Skype nickname is shown on the display. 2 Select a contact person. 3 Press the left key to switch between the Skype nickname and account ID name.

Make a conference call with your Skype contacts You can call more then one contact at the same time by selecting the contacts first in the contact list.

    Receiving a Skype call When you receive a Skype call, the screen displays the contact person who is calling you. To take the call: 1 Press the Skype-key. Lift the handset off its base (if “Auto Talk” is activated (See ”8.7 Autotalk”)) The call in progress icon appears on the screen.

    Phonebook For example, to select an ‘A’, press ‘2’ once. To select a ‘B’, press ‘2’ twice and so on. To select ‘A’ and then ‘B’ consecutively, press ‘2’ once, wait until the cursor moves on to the next character, then press ‘2’ twice. During entering text, the available character under each key appears below on the display.

    Caller Identification Copy all phonebook entries to another handset By copying all entries from one handset to another, you will erase all existing records at the destination handset. 1 Press the soft menu key. 2 Select the desired name or use the keypad to enter the first letter of the name.

    Skype voice mail Skype voice mail To have voice mail, you need to have a subscription. When you have voice mail subscription and you have received a new message, the new message icon appears on the display. You can also send a voice mail message to one of your skype contacts by the menu (outbox) without calling them first.

    15.1 Warranty period The Topcom units have a 24-month warranty period. The warranty period starts on the day the new unit is purchased. The warranty on batteries is limited to 6 months after purchase. Consumables or defects causing a negligible effect on operation or value of the equipment are not covered.
