4 Starting and Configuring the Switch

4.1 Setting up the Configuration Environment

Set up the configuration environment as follows:
Connect a terminal (a PC in this example) to the console port on the switch with a console
cable.

4.2 Connecting the Console Cable

When you want to use the terminal to configure the switch, follow these steps to connect a
terminal device to the switch using the console cable:
1)
Plug the DB-9 female connector of the console cable to the serial port of the console
terminal or PC.
2)
Connect the RJ-45 connector of the console cable to the console port of the switch.
CAUTION:
Pay attention to the mark on the console port and be sure to plug the connector to the correct port.

4.3 Setting Terminal Parameters

1)
Start the PC and run the terminal emulation program such as the Terminal of Windows
3.1 or the HyperTerminal of Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP.
