=cr oplimum performance follow these operating instructions carefully
PRECAUTIONS
,'the
lightning occurs when
you
are using the
External Antenna
and the
AC
adaptor
is
:onnected, disconnect
the AC
adaptor
from
rne
AC power outlet. Never touch the External
Antenna and
the
Telescopic Antenna
during
ightning.
HELPFULHINTS-
.lf
the set is not
used
for
a
long period of
time,
remove
all the radio
batteries to
prevent
potential
damage due
to possible
battery
leakage.
.Do
not subject
the
set
to
a
temperature

over
60'C (140'F),
because
characteristics
of the
internal
parts
may
be
adversely
affected by heat. Especially, never leave the
set in a car exposed
to
direct sunlight for
a
long
period
of
time with all the doors
and
windows closed.
The
cabinet may
become
deformed, and deterioration of the
perform-
ance
may
result.
olf this
unit
is
moved from
a
cold
area
(say
0"C)
to
a
warm place
it
may not
operate
normally.
This
is the
result
of
moisture
in
certain areas. ln approximately 60
minutes,
the unit
will
be
operating
correctly.
oThis
unit
contains liquid crystal.
lf it is
used at
extreme high
or
low
temperature, the display
may be
abnormal
or the
display
speed
may
become slightly
slow
(the correct display will
be
restored
at
usual
temperature).
oSince
a
strong
magnet
is
used
for
the
speaker,
keep
magnetized commuter
pas-
ses,
tickets
or
personal credit cards,
re-
corded tapes, watches, etc. away from
the
radio.
The speaker
magnet in
the
radio may
damage
them.
.Do
not
place
the set
near strong
magnets
such
as
those used in radios, television sets,
speaker boxes, etc. as
this
may cause
the
frequency
to
drift.
oDo not drop or give the set a strong
impact
since
the set is composed of precise
parts.
oWhen listening
in
a
train, car, or building,
use
the
radio near
a
window
to
obtain
the
best
possible reception. Reception may be
diffi-
cult
in a
tunnel
or
subway.
Also
note
that
operating
the
radio
on
a
metal object
may
adversely
affect
reception.
oDo
not use
benzine,
thinner,
or the
like,
or
any
abrasive powder
to
clean
the
cabinet.
Wipe
it
with
a
soft cloth
moistened
with
a
mild soap and
water
solution.
eAvoid spray-type insecticides. Some insecti-
cides
contarn chemicals
that
could
cause
cabinet
deformation.
POWERSOURCE-
oBefore
use,
make sure
that the
memory
back-up batteries
are
installed.
.The
memory back-up
batteries
are
used for
the
memory
of
clock
times and
radio
sta-
tions.

Open
the
Memory Back-up Battery
Com-
partment cover
as
shown
in
the
figure.

UM-3
(National R6P/LR6
or
equivalent) batteries
into
the
Memory
Back-up Battery Compartment,
making
sure that
the
batteries
are installed in
the
designated numerical
order and that
the
proper polarities
(@ and
Q)
are
main-
tained.
.When you
have
installed
the
batteries,
make
sure
lhal"

begins flashing.
This
is
normal.
lf
not
so,
remove
the
batteries and after a few minutes,
install
them
again.
3.
Replace
the
compartment
cover.
Note:
Be
sure
to
install
the
memory
back-up
batteries even
if
the AC adaptor
is
being
connected.
