1.1 General description This manual describes the SP320S series dot matrix printers listed in section 1.3. The manual includes sections on principles of operation, adjustments, part replacement, maintenance and lubrication as well as a list of parts. This manual has been prepared for use by a maintenance staff carrying out regular inspections or repairs when abnormalities occur.
THEORY OF OPERATION 2.4.2 Print Head Carriage Mechanism This print head carriage mechanism consists mainly of the carriage, carriage motor, gear train, home position detector, and timing detectors. When the carriage motor rotates, the drive shaft (cylindrical cam) is rotated by the reduction gear.

2.4.4 Ink Ribbon Feed Mechanism The ink ribbon feed mechanism comprises of the ribbon cartridge, the carriage motor, and the gear train. The gear train transmits the rotation of the carriage motor to the bevel gear. the ribbon is contained in the ribbon cartridge and tied into an endless loop.
ADJUSTMENT 3.3 Adjusting the Print Speed The printing speed is critical to ensure maximum reliability of the printer. If the printing is too fast, the print head cannot keep up and the wires get caught on the ribbon. 1. Remove the printer mechanism according to the procedure described in Section 4.2. 2.
