Remove
the
drive chai
n after
remov-
ing
the

etaining clip
with p
liers.
Do

bend
or
twist

clip.

possible
install a new
master
link.
2. Clean
the
cha
in
thoro
ughly
in
solvent.
Rinse in
clean
solvent
and allow
t
o
dry.
Insp
ect
the
chai
n
for wea
r
(joint
sloppiness), stiffness
and
b inding
at the
join ts and broken
or
separated
ro
ller
s.
If
any of
these
conditions exist, the
chain shou
ld
be rep laced.
Also
inspect sprocket
teeth for wear.
Never install a
new
chain on badly
worn
sprockets
or
install
a badly worn
chain
o
n
new sprockets.

Immerse the
cha
in
in
a
co
ntainer
con-
taining a
m ixture of
SAE 10W-40
engi
ne
o
il
and p etroleum
jelly-
r
atio of
1
US
qt.
(1
liter)
o
il
to
10 oz. (300 gr.l
petro-
leum
jel ly-and
heat
to
150°F
for
approximately
10
min
utes.
Then
remove
the pan
from
the heat
and carefully agitate
the
immersed
chai
n
with
a
screw
driver.
When cool,
re-
move
the
cha in, allo
win
g
it
to
hang
over
the pan
to
dra
in o
ff
excess
lubri
-
ca
nt.
Use a clean
cloth
or
rag to
wi
pe
off any
r
ema
ining excess lubr
icant.

chain onto
the
sprockets
using the
r ear
sprockets
to posi
ti
on the chai
n
ends while
in-
stallin
g
the master link
side plate and
retaining
clip.
