Before you begin using your Digital Satellite Receiver for
the first time, follow the instructions in "Connecting Your
Digital Satellite Receiver" on pages 6–15 and "Setting Up
Your Digital Satellite Receiver (SYSTEM)" on pages 26–42.
To receive satellite programming, make sure your Satellite
Dish Antenna is properly installed. Then call DIRECTV to
begin service.

    Setup and Connections Below is a description of the jacks and cables you can use to make connections. Some cables are not supplied with your Digital Satellite Receiver. VHF/UHF Jacks and Coaxial (RF) Cable Use the VHF/UHF IN jacks to receive signals from a TV antenna or from a cable TV connection.

    Using Your Remote Control Inserting the Batteries Before you can use the remote control, you must insert the supplied batteries. If you want to use this remote control to operate other audio/video equipment, such as a TV or VCR, you must set up the remote control (see page 19).

    Setting Up Your Digital Satellite Receiver (SYSTEM) Return Closes the SYSTEM pop-up to show the Main Menu. Antenna Lets you find the position of the satellite and helps you get the strongest signal from your Satellite Dish Antenna and digital TV antenna. (see page 27).

    Remote Signal Lets you select IR (infrared) or RF (radio frequency) as the type of signal the receiver accepts. RF Security Control Lets you change the security code. RF signals are used to control many devices. You may need to change the security code so that this remote control operates the Digital Satellite Receiver only.

    Using Other Guides The Other Guides display provides special categories supplied by DIRECTV for satellite programs. Each category is divided into subcategories to help you find the exact program you want to watch. Program information is available for up to three days in advance. Press the EXIT button to close the Other Guides display and return to the previous station.

    Viewing Pay Per View Programs Many programs are available as pay per view. By selecting a pay per view program you agree to be charged for that program. Note To order pay per view by remote, a ® DIRECTV subscription is required and the Digital Satellite Receiver must be continuously connected to a land-based phone line.

You can reduce the number of stations that appear by skipping unwanted stations.

    DIRECTV Locks & Limits and TV Locks & Limits This section describes the use of the DIRECTV Locks & Limits feature. The way you use the TV Locks & Limits feature is the same as the DIRECTV Locks & Limits feature except for the different rating limit settings that are available.

    Checking Service Provider Information (DIRECTV) Using the DIRECTV Menu The DIRECTV Menu lets you access messages from your service provider. You can also view a list of pay per view programs you have purchased. Press the MENU button, then highlight and select DIRECTV.

    Editing Timer & Rec Events You can easily edit or delete Timer & Rec events. Press the MENU button, then highlight and select TIMER & REC. The Timer & Rec display appears. Highlight and select the number of the event you want to edit.
