    Connecting a Power Source You can use either AC power or a rechargeable battery pack as a power source.     Notebook User Guide If the battery level falls below 10% (both the battery indicator and power indicators will blink), you should either attach the AC adapter to recharge the battery or shut down your computer and insert a fully charged battery. When the computer is directly connected to AC power and has a battery pack in the battery bay, it uses power from the AC outlet.
  • Page 30 Connecting a Power Source Battery life is shorter in a cold environment. This is due to decreased battery efficiency at low temperatures. Charge the batteries at temperatures between 50 F and 80 F (10 C to 30 C). Lower temperatures require a longer charging time. While the battery is in use or being discharged, the battery pack heats up.

    Notebook User Guide Using the Keyboard Your keyboard is very similar to a typewriter’s, but the keyboard has additional keys that perform specific computer-related tasks.     Description Operator keys Several keys are always used with at least one other key: Ctrl, Alt, and Shift. When held down with another key, the Ctrl (Control) and Alt (Alternate) keys offer another way to give commands. For example, in many applications, instead of choosing the Save command from a menu, you can hold down Ctrl and press S (referred to as Ctrl+S).

    Notebook User Guide Changing the Video Memory Size The video memory for this notebook computer uses a part of the main memory. You can select the size, 2 MB/4 MB/8 MB, the default setting is 4 MB. Select 4 MB when using features such as dual display mode and 8 MB for higher resolution and better color, when playing 3D games.

    Using PC Cards Your computer includes two PC card slots. PC cards allow you to connect portable external devices such as another hard disk drive, or to connect to a network. Warning: When using a PC card with a head that sticks out of the slot (Wireless LAN cards, etc.), do not move your computer with the PC card inserted.

    Notebook User Guide Using Power Saving Modes When you use a battery as the source of power for your computer, you can take advantage of power management settings to conserve battery life. In addition to the normal operating mode, which allows you to turn off specific devices, your computer has two distinct power saving modes: Standby and Hibernation.

Attaching a port replicator enables you to connect additional peripherals to your computer.
