    About this manual • This manual mainly explains operations using the remote, but the same operations can also be performed using the buttons on the DVD-VCR having the same or similar names. • “DVD” may be used as a general term for DVD VIDEOs, DVD-RWs/DVD-Rs, and DVD+RWs/ DVD+Rs.

    Region code Your player has a region code printed on the back of the unit and only will play DVD VIDEO discs (playback only) labeled with identical region codes. This system is used to protect copyrights. DVDs labeled will also play on this player. If you try to play any other DVD VIDEO, a message will appear on the TV screen to indicate that the disc is not playable.
  • Page 9 Note on DualDiscs A DualDisc is a two sided disc product which mates DVD recorded material on one side with digital audio material on the other side. However, since the audio material side does not conform to the Compact Disc (CD) standard, playback on this product is not guaranteed.

  • Page 34 Adjusting the picture (tracking) Although the VCR automatically adjusts the tracking when playing a tape, distortion may occur if the recording is in poor condition.     Changing the sound When playing a DVD recorded in multiple audio formats (PCM, Dolby Digital, or DTS), you can change the audio format. If the DVD is recorded with multilingual tracks, you can also select the language. With CDs or VIDEO CDs, you can select the sound from the right or left channel and listen to the sound of the selected channel through both the right and left speakers.

    Searching using various functions The VCR automatically marks the tape with an index signal at the point where each recording begins. You can easily find a specific point using various search functions. Press SELECT VIDEO to control the VCR. Insert an indexed tape into the VCR. Press SEARCH.

    Troubleshooting If you have any questions or problems not covered below, please consult your nearest Sony dealer. (see “For customers in USA” on the front cover) General Troubleshooting Symptom The ?/1 switch does not function. The power is turned on but the DVD- VCR does not operate.
  • Page 89 DVD Troubleshooting Symptom There is no picture/picture noise appears. The Playback does not start/buttons on the remote and unit does not function. Even though you set the aspect ratio in “TV Type” of the “SCREEN SETUP” menu the picture does not fill the screen.
  • Page 90 Symptom The disc does not play. The MP3 audio track cannot be played (page 69). The JPEG image file cannot be played. The title of the MP3 audio album/ track or JPEG image album/file is not correctly displayed. The disc does not start playing from the beginning.
