Basic Operations Playing a CD Basic Operations For hookup instructions, see pages 25 – 27. Push 6 PUSH OPEN/CLOSE down to open the CD compartment and place the CD on the CD compartment. With the label side up Close the lid of the CD compartment.

The CD Player Using the display You can check information about the CD using the display. The CD Player Checking the total track numbers and playing time Press DISPLAY ENT MEM in stop mode. If the CD has more than 12 tracks, “OVER 12” appears in the display.
Locating a specific point in a track You can quickly find a specific point in a track while playing a CD. You can also locate any track using the number buttons on the remote (CFD- ZW750/ZW770 only). Note CFD-ZW750/ZW770 only: You cannot locate a specific track if “SHUF”...

Tips • You can play the same program again, since the program is saved until you open the disc compartment. • You can record your own program. After you’ve created the program, insert a blank tape into deck B and press r on deck B to start recording.

The Radio Presetting radio stations You can store radio stations into the player’s memory. You can preset up to 20 radio stations, 10 for each band in any order. On the remote (CFD- ZW750/ZW770 only) 1 Press BAND to select the band.
Playing preset radio stations Once you have preset the stations, use PRESET +/– on the player or the number buttons on the remote (CFD- ZW750/ZW770 only) to tune in to your favorite stations. On the remote (CFD- ZW750/ZW770 only) 1 Press BAND to select the band.
The Timer Setting the clock “--:--” indication appears in the display until you set the clock. The time display system of this player is the 12-hour system: AM12:00 = midnight PM12:00 = noon CLOCK Before you set the clock, connect the power source (pages 25 - 27).
Waking up to music You can wake up to music or a radio program at a preset time. Make sure you have set the clock (“Setting the clock” on page 21). The Timer TIMER STANDBY Before you begin, make sure the t (clock) indication is not lit in the display.

Tips • To exit the standby mode, press STANDBY to make the t indication disappear from the display. • The preset settings remain until you reset them. • CFD-ZW770 only: The backlight in the display does not light while the waking up timer is on.
Falling asleep to music You can set the player to turn off automatically after 10, 20, 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes, allowing you to fall asleep while listening to music. Tips • When you are playing radio or CD, make sure that ( of the tape player is not depressed.
Setting Up Hooking up the system Make sure you turn off the power before making any connections. Tips • To detach the speakers, unlock speaker (see B on the diagram) and slide the speaker box all the way up and away from the player.
Hooking up the system (continued) Setting Up Connect the black wires to (–) minus and the red wires to (+) plus terminals; the right speaker wires to the R and the left speaker wires to the L terminals. 3 Connecting the AC power cord Insert one end of the supplied AC power cord to the AC IN socket located at the rear of the player, and the other end to the wall outlet.
Note CFD-ZW750/ZW770 only: When you operate the player on batteries: – you cannot turn on the player using the remote. – the backlight in the display does not light (CFD-ZW770 only). Replace the batteries when the OPR/BATT indicator dims or when the player stops operating.
Selecting the audio emphasis (Sound Mode/MEGA BASS/ 5 BAND GRAPHIC EQUALIZER) You can adjust the audio emphasis of the sound you are listening to. Setting Up MEGA BASS Selecting the sound characteristic Press one of the SOUND buttons to select the sound characteristic you want.

Note When adjusting the 5 BAND GRAPHIC EQUALIZER, be sure to press the MANUAL button. The graphic equalizer will not work in any other position. If you have selected MANUAL on page 28, slide 5 BAND GRAPHIC EQUALIZER to select the audio emphasis you want.
• If the player has not been used for a long time, set it in the playback mode to warm it up for a few minutes before inserting a cassette. If you have any questions or problems concerning your player, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.

Troubleshooting Symptom The power is not on. There is no audio. “no disc“ lights in the display even when a CD is in place. The CD does not play. The sound drops out. The audio is weak or has poor quality.

After all the indications in the display disappear, plug the power cord and insert the batteries again. If the problem persists, please consult your nearest Sony dealer. Remedy • Close the cassette compartment securely.
Maintenance Cleaning the lens If the lens becomes dirty, it may cause a skipping of sound during CD operation. Clean with a commercially available blower.
