Adjusting the positioning and the input sensitivity of the built-in microphones
About the directivity of the built-in microphones
The built-in microphones are unidirectional. You can change the directions of the microphones according to your recording
scene.
When rotating both capsules of the microphones to face inside (X-Y position)
The microphone on the right picks up sound from the left; the microphone on the left picks up sound from the right. You can
obtain natural and profound stereo sound recording. This position is recommended for recording close-by sound sources such
as a solo performance or a session of two or three people.
However, if you place the microphones too close to the sound source, please note that the microphones may pick up the sounds
reversely.
A: Picks up sound from the right.
B: Picks up sound from the left.
When rotating both capsules of the microphones to face outside (Wide stereo position)
The microphone on the right picks up sound from the right; the microphone on the left picks up sound from the left. You can
obtain dynamic stereo sound recording. This position is recommended for recording a remote sound source such as a chorus,
an orchestra, or other performance of a large number of people.
A: Picks up sound from the left.
B: Picks up sound from the right.
To switch the microphone input sensitivity
Use the MIC ATT switch.
Usually slide it to [0]. When recording loud sounds, slide it to [20]. For details, see
(Microphone attenuation).
