Trouble check

If you run into any problem using the camcorder, use the following table to
troubleshoot the problem.
Should the difficulty persist, disconnect the power source and contact your Sony dealer
or local authorized Sony service facility.

The power is not on.
The power goes off.
The battery pack is quickly
discharged.
Operation

START/STOP does not
operate.
The cassette cannot be
removed from the holder.
No function except for cassette
ejection works.
The tape does not move when
a tape transport button is
pressed.
The date or time indicator is
flashing.
Cause and/or Corrective Actions
• The battery pack is not installed.
m Attach the battery pack firmly by pushing the lower part of
the battery pack. (p. 7)
• The battery is dead.
m Use a charged battery pack. (p. 6)
• The AC power adaptor is not connected to wall outlet.
m Connect the AC power adaptor to wall outlet. (p. 19)
• While being operated in CAMERA mode, the camcorder
has been in the Standby mode for more than 5 minutes.
m Turn STANDBY down once and turn it up again. (p. 10)
• The battery is dead.
m Use a charged battery pack. (p. 6)
• The ambient temperature is too low. (p. 34)
• The battery pack has not been charged fully.
m Charge the battery pack again. (p. 6)
• The battery pack is completely dead, and cannot be recharged.
m Use another battery pack. (p. 35)
Cause and/or Corrective Actions
• The tape is stuck to the drum.
m Eject the cassette. (p. 8)
• The tape has run out.
m Rewind the tape or use a new one. (p. 16)
• The POWER switch is set to PLAYER.
m Set it to CAMERA. (p. 9)
• The tab on the cassette is out (red).
m Use a new cassette or slide the tab. (p. 8)
• The battery is dead.
m Use a charged battery pack or the AC power adaptor. (p. 7, 19)
• Moisture condensation has occurred.
m Remove the cassette and leave the camcorder for at least 1
hour. (p. 38)
• The POWER switch is set to CAMERA or OFF.
m Set it to PLAYER. (p. 16)
• The tape has run out.
m Rewind the tape or use a new one. (p. 16)
• You pressed DATE and TIME together for more than 2
seconds. The camcorder is not malfunctioning.
m You may start recording. Flashing will stop soon.
• The lithium battery is weak or dead.
m Replace the lithium battery with a new one. (p. 31)
