7. Separate the fan from the housing.
Gasket
NOTE: When replacing the fan also replace the fan
gasket.
Diagnosing
Checking from the main board approximate
operating voltages can be read at the J2 connector.
•
Low Speed: J2 pin 8 (red) - J2 pin 6 (black) = 3.5
– 4 VDC
•
Medium Speed: J2 pin 8 (red) - J2 pin 6 (black) =
4.5 - 5 VDC
•
High Speed: J2 pin 8 (red) - J2 pin 6 (black) = 5.5
- 6 VDC
Freezer Fan
The freezer fan is a permanent magnet 4-pole, DC
medium, and low. The speed of the fan is controlled
by the voltage output from the main control board.
Voltage output from the control board to the fan
is 13.6 VDC; however to regulate the speed of
the fan, the main control board uses Pulse Width
Modulation (PWM). When operating, voltage is
sent in pulses (much like a duty cycle) as opposed
control board selects and regulates fan speed and
varies the length and frequency of the 13.6 VDC
pulse. The main control board monitors the speed of
the motor and adjusts the PWM.
Freezer Fan Removal
1. Remove the freezer drawer front.
2. Remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the fan motor connector.
4. Note the position and orientation of the fan
blade.
5. Pull straight out to remove the fan blade.
6. Remove the two 1/4 in. mounting screws.
