6. Charge programs
The various facilities of the charger are divided up into two program groups which you can select
by pressing the ENTER button. The sequence is shown in the flow chart below.
Note: If a battery is connected to the charger, it is not possible to switch to a different program
group. This is an intentional safety feature, designed to make it impossible to switch accidentally to
a charge program which is unsuitable for the battery you are using when a charge process is ac
tually in progress. You can interrupt the charge process at any time by pressing the „MODE" but-
ton.
Ni-Cd / Ni-MH battery programs: for charging 1 - 10 cells, charge current variable within the range
0.1 - 5 A in 0.1 A increments; Delta Peak sensitivity variable within the range 3 - 25 mV in 1 mV in-
crements; variable „Safety Timer", range 5 - 300 minutes in 5-minute increments; switchable buz.
zer.
Li-Po / Li-Ion battery programs: for charging 1 - 4 cells, charge capacity 100 - 9900 mAh, variab-
le in 100 mAh increments, variable „Safety Timer", range 5 - 300 minutes in 5-minute increments;
switchable buzzer.

When the ULTRAMAT 10 is initially connected to a 12 V car battery or a 230 V mains socket, the
unit runs through the information routine which provides the user with a brief summary of the
essential user settings. The charger's screen displays the following information in sequence:

8. Using the charger for the first time

The ULTRAMAT 10's name appears on the screen.
2 sec.
After about two seconds the Ultramat 10 switches to the Ni-Cd /
Ni-MH charge program. There the charge current and Delta Peak
point can be adjusted.
9. Ni-Cd / Ni-MH program
When set to the Ni-Cd / Ni-MH charge program the ULTRAMAT 10
DEC
can charge 1 - 10 cells. While the charge current indicator in the
-
top line is flashing, you can use the INC / DEC buttons as a conve-
nient means of setting the maximum charge current. The range of
adjustment is 0.1 - 5 A in increments of 0.1 A.
-
Press the ENTER button to confirm that the setting is correct; the
bottom line of the display now starts flashing. At this point you can
adjust the Delta Peak cut-off sensitivity in increments of 0.1 mV,
again using the INC / DEC buttons. The adjustment range is 3 mV
to 25 mV per cell.
A value of 15 mV has proved to be a useful basic setting, but ple-
ase refer to the information provided by the battery manufacturer if
you are unsure of this.
When you have entered these two settings you can connect a bat-
tery pack consisting of 1 - 10 Ni-Cd / Ni-MH cells to the charger.
You will hear an audible signal to confirm proper contact (unless
you have disabled the buzzer), and the screen display will start
flashing.
You can now initiate the charge process by pressing the ENTER
button.
The unit adjusts the charge current at intervals until the set charge
current is reached. During this time the screen displays the mes-
sage „CHG Max." in the top line, alternating with the momentary
charge current. As soon as the set charge current is reached, the
top line of the screen alternates between „CHG" and „Ni".
DEC
Please note that the maximum charge current varies according to
the number of cells in the pack on charge. If you wish to charge a
fairly large battery and set a charge current of, say, 5.0 A, the Ul-
tramat 10 will never reach this value. In this case the message
„CHG Max." will be superimposed during the whole charge pro-
cess.
1 3 s
Press the INC or DEC button to change to a display of charge
time and charge capacity.
Press either of the two buttons a second time to revert to the pre-
vious display.
