– Locate where the signal is entering the system.
This can be done by removing branches from
the antenna system to see when the system
quiets down. Remember that patients being
received by antennas that have been removed
cannot be monitored.
– Remember! Sources can move, which makes
troubleshooting a bit more difficult, so work
– Fix the system by eliminating or repairing the
source. Relocate or permanently remove the
antenna where the signal is entering. Some
things to check are:
— failing fluorescent light ballast
— vacuum cleaners
— hand drills
— electric pencil sharpeners
— nurse call systems
— vacuum tube delivery system motors
— unused, unterminated, but still powered
antenna systems
— anything with a motor is suspect. Dirty
motor brushes can arc and cause
broadband noise.
