1-1 Features

The BVP-550 is a DSP (digital signal processing)
color video camera designed for use with a variety of
optional, plug-in CCD units (OHB-450/450P/451/
451P/550/550P/550WS/550WSP). The BVP-550 can
be used for Electronic Field Production (EFP) by
connecting the optional CCU-700 /700P Camera
Control Unit through a CA-550/550P Camera Adapter,
and for assembling a Betacam SP System suitable for
Electronic News Gathering (ENG) by attaching the
optional CA-553 Camera Adaptor and BVV-5/5PS
Betacam SP (Superior Performance) Series Portable
Video Cassette Recorder.
The principle features of the BVP-550 are as follows:
Digital signal processing
Digital processing of video signals is performed
through analog-preknee processing, followed by 10-bit
AD/DA conversion. Digital processing of all video
signals thereafter is done using 14-bit quantization at a
sampling rate of 36 MHz. As a result, a processing
rate of about 80% is attained for all signals while high
picture quality is maintained. Because of its high rate
of digitization, the BVP-550 supports the following
features:
Advanced performance
• Subtle video imaging through a varity of detail
effects
• Selectable aspect ratio of 16:9 or 4:3 (when the
optional OHB-550WS/550WSP is attached)
Superb stability
The BVP-550 is capable of stable operation over long
periods and extreme temperature variations.
Easy setup
• Unlike previous video camera models, The BVP-550
supports setup operations using numerical data,
eliminating on-board volume adjustments required in
previous video camera models.
• Easy reproduction of setup conditions allow uniform
color matching even when using multiple cameras.

with 520,000 pixels to achieve
high image quality suitable for Electronic Field
Production. The various CCD units share the following
characteristics:
• High sensitivity: 2000 lx (F8)
• High signal-to-noise ratio: 62 dB (standard)
• Very low smear
• Very low flare
The follow four optional CCD units are available:
• OHB-450/450P: IT type
• OHB-451/451P: IT type servo filter specifications
• OHB-550/550P: FIT type
• OHB-550WS/550WSP: 16:9 aspect ratio, FIT type
(16:9/4:3 switchable)
Black balance and other compensation data are stored
within each CCD unit, thus eliminating the need for
readjustments during replacement of CCD units during
upgrades or repairs, etc.
In the case of the OHB-550/550P or 550WS/550WSP,
remote control of filter position is also possible by
attaching the optional BKDW-701 Servo Filter Unit.
Automatic adjustment of black/white
balance and memory function
A simple switch operation enables the automatic
adjustment of the black set, black balance, and white
balance. Adjustment settings are saved in memory,
and maintained even when video camera is turned off,
eliminating the need to make adjustments each time
you turn on the video camera.
By selecting the setting to suit the lighting conditions,
the camera is automatically adjusted according to the
white balance saved in memory. Preset white balances
for various temperatures can also be selected when
there is no time to make an adjustment.
