Hands-free talking gives you the following advantages:

Muting the microphone

You can switch the microphone off when conducting an external call. This will
allow you, for example, to converse discretely with other people in the room.
The other person on the phone will not be able to listen in when the micro-
phone is muted, and you will not be able to hear that person.
